I've posted about my truck many times, its a 92' 3.9 standard cab...

Im looking at a new motor, but dont want to make a high $$ mistake to run a long with it all...

I have 3 choices - V8 swap and upgrade everything to withstand the extra power, rebuild this one, or take this newer motor with 90k on it, and do a head job on it to toss in...

the motor i have now burns oil when you really get up on it, and very little when you just pussy foot it around...

any help would be great!

If your truck is in good shape and you like it why not rebuild or have it rebuilt. The 92 and 93 v6's are the best daks by far in terms of power compared to other dak.

Ross, remember one thing, your wiring harness and computer will only work on 92-95 engines. Correct me if I'm wrong? I tend to agree with wadak, we have the best years of dakotas made, especially the 92!
Remember we start off with 5 more HP than anyone else does and from personal experience, far less problems with our trucks.

The 92 93 had bigger better flowing exhaust
manifolds

The newer motor with good heads sounds like all
you need to do is replace the valve seals and
it will help the oil burning.

Just use your 92 intake and exhaust on the newer
motor it can be any 92 to 03 3.9 the basic lower
end blocks are all the same changes to intake
manifold.

SO if i bought that newer motor, used my intake and heads, using new valve seals on the heads, then my exhaust id get the more power because of a newer motor, and id be back up and have the higher horsepower the 92/93s have along with having no problems fitting or using that motor with everything else i have correct?

Im looking at the fact also, that this motor has a timing chain with that tensioner - i was going to spend the 100$ on my motor that far anyway, and with burning oil - no fun....

newer motor just use those heads why even remove
them

just bolt your intake and exhaust from your 92 and
the hp will be 5 to 10 more with the bigger exh
manifold from the 92 180 hp

intake and plenium gaskit from dealer better
quility than the cheap gaskets that are out there
around $35, exht is mating metal surface no
gaskets just be sure its clean.

drop it in wire it up and your running

I found out the heads off this motor require being machined and rebuilt... so its a no go on the heads if i even decide to get the motor (has 90k on it)

i notice im puffing smoke under hard acceleration... im afraid the piston rings are starting to wear... using about a quart to a quart and a half of oil every 3-4 tanks of gas...

I also managed to latch onto a free timing chain from a buddy of mine.. so its a toss up what i want/need to do to stay running in tip top shape...

Larry, I thought the 92/93 v6 daks had a more agressive camshaft than newer v6 dakotas.
