What would be the power gain if putting a cone air filter directly on the airhat without any hose or pipe. I know this wont do much but will it do something? What are some alterior options? Thanks

it prob wont do much at all except for make more noise the power would stay the same cuz of all the hot air it would be suckin in. look up a homebrew intake and do that. the pipe is like 5$. the expensive part is the filter

Yes, unfortunately if anything it might actually hurt your power... Go to ebay and look up some of the homemade cold air intakes... That's where I got mine for right around $40 and I couldn't be happier with it... It's the one advertised as mandrel bent chrome plated tubing with the air filter on the end that has the inner and outer cone to it ; )) Or you can build your own and buy the very same filter for right at $5 by itself off of ebay as well... Either way would wind up better than the top mounted filter unless yours is carbed and or you've got a hood scoop to dirrectly feed it...

For any 96 and older truck, you can just remove the factory plastic dam at the grill. I did it to mine. Works like a charm. You just have to clean the air assembly more often. You also have to use a very good air cleaner. You will have to replace it often or reoil a K&N.
