Subject: Chain Tensioner "breakage"
IP: Logged

Message:
Hi Guys,
I have been following the article that J&J wrote about how to change the timing chain and add a timing tensioner. I finely got my Comp Cams double roller timing chain and a timing tensioner. It took a while, but I finally got both of them on my truck. But, the timing chain seem to be awfully tight up against the tensioner.
I was wondering, what are the chaces of the timing chain wearing away the plastic that the chain rides up against and the metal backing, that actually provides the tension? Has anyone heard of one of these failing?

TIA

the "plastic" is most likely UHMW or "ultra high molecular weight" plastic that wears much better in situations like this then teflon.very slippery stuff this uhmw, we have been using it for years as guide plates in the machine we build, and in very few cases have we ever had to replace it as a wear item.

They do wear.
Ever heard a high mileage 2.6 mitsu?

Just replace with the double roller and save the HP robbing friction of the tensioner.

yeah I have on the mitsu the japs use teflon, uhmw has a higher wear resistance. and if you take the time to read previous post, I indicate that it does wear, just much better then teflon.

argueing on the internet is just like being in the Special Olymics, after it is over you are still a retard!
