Subject: 1.7 roller rocker question
IP: Logged

Message:
I was wondering, will 1.7 ratio roller rockers hurt my MPG if i drive the same as i did before installing them?

Also will these rockers give more power in the lower RPM range? my 3.9 seems to start to kick in around 2500 rpm... would be nice to get more power around 2000 rpm... any suggestions?

thanks

Tyler

You'll get more power and better gas milage. I run them on my 97 3.9L and of all the mods I have done, Roller Rockers rate in the top 3.

You dont have to get new valve covers, you can either beat the baffles in a little or remove them completely.

DO NOT remove them completely unless you want all your oil

The Harland Sharp rockers do not require any modification to the baffles and also do not need to be adjusted like the Crowers. They are also cheaper.

RacerX, I installed non-magnum 3.9L chrome valve covers about 2 years ago. They are taller and do not require any modifications. I purchased my crower 1.7 rockers from Truckperformance.

Socaldakota.com has some of the best prices I've ever seen on the crower rr's...

Steve where did you get your valve covers from??? The only chrome one's I've seen were through jegs... Not sure if they were non magnum or not though... I think they were listed for around $50 to $70 dollars for the set, not real sure there either... Oh well, any help would be appreciated...

Greg, yes, Jegs is where I got mine. Your current valve covers use 8 bolts. The chrome ones use 6 bolts; 2 less on the bottom. The shape does not fit perfictly on the heads. All you do is use the cork gaskets from a 1988 dodge dakota 3.9L, a little RTV on the bottom 2 corners and use some valve cover hold downs. Mine have never leaked and look great. I'll email you a pic.

Witch 1.7 RRs' on Socaldakota.com should a person get? they have 2. One is $360.05 shipped it includes rockers, studs and washers, and can handle up to 5500 rpm, and the other is $493.95 shipped and it includes rockers, studs, guideplates, and longer pushrods. Will handle 5500+ rpm. Is the more expensive ones something that you shold get?

If you are running a stock PCM, Auto-- you can run the standard 1.7 kit ($360.05)... If you run a manual, or have the reprogrammed PCM-- or run the truck generally 'hard'... I recommend the Rev 1.7 kit which includes longer pushrods and guideplates.

DO NOT REMOVE YOUR BAFFLES--- YOU WILL SUCK OIL into your intake and it'll cause serious engine problems. You 'CAN' knock in the baffles to clear the tops of the rocker studs, OR--- I offer modified valve covers with new welded in low profile baffles, POWDERCOATED in a variety of colors for $100 shipped, plus your old valve covers in exchange. Popular colors include Red, Intense Blue, Candy Purple (DA), Black Wrinkle, Silver metallic, Hemi Orange--- you name it (Candy & Wrinkle finish's run $10 more per order).
I offer free phone support during your install, I'll even call ya back (weekends)

Email me for pictures.

Sam since your on the post, I was just wondering if you had gotten the payment yet and shipped out the rr's for Greg Huggins??? I'm kinda anxious to see how they look :)) I did like you said and went to krcperformance only to find that their rr's are the same as your kit only they charge 100 or so more dollars for them and then you have to buy the guideplates and pushrods seperate so I figured I'de pay the $110 for the Crower guideplates and the $125 for the nascar pushrods from them then get the rr's from you... BUT, evidently the guideplates had to be back ordered so it could be months before getting them... Not good news at all... May have to put everything back together, take it easy, then pull it all back apart to put in the guideplates when they arive:// Cost more than your complete kit in the long run I know, but I think it would have been better than buying two seperate pushrod kits... "Your longer ones from the rev kit and the nascar ones from krc"

Steve have you emailed that pic yet... My email is emh@smnet.net if you can't find it... I'm interrested in your setup in just how nice it looks and how you've got it fastened down "EXACTLY"...

Thanks to everyone,
Greg
