Subject: Fog lights ?

Message:
my 99 dakota doesn't have fog lights and i can't stand the way that it looks with out them. i was planing to put the PIAA 510 in the stock location, but am unsure about the wirering. Some people say that the trucks have the factory wireing in them from the factory. i look in the frount and the only conector that could find was the one that is atached by the horns and its taped there is that the factry fog light wire or something else. will i need anything else besides a new swich and will the wireing hold up to the piaa lights. also i am going to need a new rester or something i read in other post how do i instal that. any info would be greatly acepted.

Ok I think that the fog lights come as a whole package when they are installed after the fact I've got a 98 with the fog lights and it looks like mine were installed after the factory because the extra wire is bundleed up an zipped tied. hope this helps

MOPAR sells a kit for the Dakota (if I remeber correctly, the kit was made by Hella). I installed a set that my wife got me for last Christmas. The kit came with all the wires, relays and the switch. She bought it on-line, but she says she can't remember from where. The wires are not already on the truck if it did not come with the lights from the factory. The entire install took a couple hours (the worst part being cutting the holes in the bumper).

I did something simmilar, I used a 4" hole saw to cut the holes in the bumper and then filed the edges very carefully, BE sure to center the hole saw or you will mess-up your bumper. I used after market lamps and had to fab a braket. What i did was cut an "L" shaped peice of flat steel and cut slots in it that match up with the bumper mounting bolts just up and to the outside of each lamp hole. then screwed the lamp to the bracket the only aiming I had to do was the vertical adjustment. Wireing is simple power, ground, and a switch.
