I have a 1994 Dakota 3.9 auto SLT, and I was wondering if it had a rev limiter. I just dont want to find out the hard way. I can get it up to about 5,000rpm, but thats all im willing to go.

the valves will float when you exceed redline this will definately limit your revs-- seriously how many miles on your 94 must be getting tired . also be aware that the wear on an engine is a function of the square of the rpm if you plan on a rebuild go ahead and beat on it

Mine just hit 160,000 this week. I don't really want to blow it up, cuz I'm getting rid of it this summer to get a 4x4 Ram. I was just wondering. It was my dad's truck before I got it, so it wasn't driven hard at all. The day I inherited it, thats when it really got to experience hell.

The 94 has a 4800rpm rev limit but will bounce off
that and hit 5000

Haha! My dad drives like an old woman. He never gets on his 2003 Dakota 4.7 like I would if he threw me the keys. My truck has never given me any problems and I feel its one of the most reliable things on the road. First crank everytime and it starts right up, no matter what weather conditions.

LOL I remember I had a customer @ the GM dealership come in to service and tell me the engine was sputtering bad. Conditions were :
Sitting in PARK and revving it up. They would push the pedal to the floor and it'd cut out!
LMMFAO I told him that was normal, it was for dumbasses like him to keep from blowing the engine. Needless to say, I got a talking to from the GM Rep for calling the guy a dumbass, even though he agreed that he was.!!
Sometimes you just can't be tactful!
LMAO!
