Subject: Valve Train???
IP: Logged

Message:
Allright from Larry and a few others advisories, I've decided to go with the #HER0814AL-V6 cam and from there the ---

#1102 .600" lift valve springs
#1276-12 5/16" retainers
#A-1320 case hardened machined steel valve locks
nascar heat treated pushrods from krc
#6432 double roller timing chain
#6450 chain tensioner
#6006 offset keys

Now my question is, could I go with the Crower 1.7s or do I still need the 1.6's??? If I get the 1.7's or the 1.6's will I also be better off to get some new rocker guides, keepers or retainers or whatever the rockers use to keep the pushrods centered right "goes underneath the rockers and I can't think of the name right now"... Wouldn't the 1.7's provide more torque or is that just with the stock cam...

Will I have to worry about valve piston slap with any of this or vacuum issues???

I'm also doing the .020 head shave...

Thanks in advance,
Greg

I forgot to ask this earlier, but are there any performance lifters for these engines... I noticed in krcperformance that they have performance lifters in their built assembled engines, but I have yet to find any listed anywhere else...

Thanks Again,
Greg

you need to stay with the 1.6 ratio stock no
guides nessasary

You do not need to go with a spring for .600 lift

go here or dealer

http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/ram.html

P5249464 .400 to .525 and 6000rpm

P4452032 crome moly retainers

P4529218 keepers

P5249862 mopar performance lifters

All mopar parts that will go right on the heads
and have been tested tuff by many people,
including myself

no piton to valve clearace probs

Larry would it hurt anything to go with the better springs and retainers, because I would personally rather have them just for the safer side of things...

I hate to sound a little stupid here but what is the main differences in the performance lifters and the stock "float, stiffer, roll better"??? I'm going with the performance, but was just wondering about the differences... Oh and the moparperformance article was nice, allthough I think the crowers are a tougher and stouter rocker...

So does this sound a little better ---

from dodge

#p4452032 - chromemolly retainers
#p5249862 - performance lifters

from hughes

1102 - .600" lift springs
A-1320 - valve locks "keepers"
cam timing chain and all that stuff

krc - pushrods

socaldakota - crower 1.6 rr's

Thanks Again,
Greg

Allright I've got yet another problem... I took the part numbers to the dodge place and they couldn't find any of them in their database:// So they haven't by chance changed the numbers or something have they???

Here's how they typed in the numbers --

p4452032 and p5249862

Overkill on the springs puts unnecessary stress on the rest of the assembly.

That's kinda what I was thinking... You don't happen to have the part numbers to all the other stuff or know what the dodge part numbers are do you and where's Larry??? I've noticed he hasn't been answering anything the last few days or maybe he's just been avoiding my post... I tend to have that effect on people with all my constant questions :))

Maybe I'll just forget the dodge place and get straight from mopartsracing.com... Oh well://

When I give them to dodge their not suppost to have the p out in front are they:// Just wondering because when I went to mopartsracing.com they didn't list the p's... Anythoughts here??? Oh and I've decided to go with all of the parts that you listed for me Larry...

Thanks Again,
Greg

Allright, the part number thing didn't work... Service/Parts center at dodge couldn't bring up any of them... Looks like I'll be going through mopartsracing.com after all... Kinda woulda like to have gone through the dodge place though... That way I could have sent them back if something didn't work "allthough I think they will"... Larry, you wouldn't happen to know why the parts didn't come up do you???

Thanks again for everything so far,
Greg

Not avoiding anyone why would I

go here

http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/ram.html

some dealers do not have the P part #s listed
or try without the P in front all dealers are not
the same.

I have the same prob at my local some cant find
without the P and some with the P the P designates
performance part

The retainers and clips are the R/T set up the
performance lifters are made to handle more stress
and load

the 1.6 crowers will be fine unless you plan to
rev over 5500rpm than use stock or the crower rev
kit

Thanks Larry, that clears up some things... Actually they tried with and without the P and nothing with both... Moper build ups just aren't that big of a thing around here anymore so I guess they didn't see the need for the listings... Most people are getting "with the prices of getting things fixed" to where they'll buy a new vehicle, drive it till it really tears up then get rid of it... Just plain sorry I know, but it's becoming more and more the truth with prices of things these days...
