Okay ... I am in the need for gas miliage, I run a 2001 Ram 1500 3.9L 3.55 Peg-Legged beast only came here cuz this is the best place. SO anyway I am getting about 14mpg or so I think it has a little to do with the gas using mtbe but I don't know when they will stop using it(Dallas TX) or if they even are. I am about to become a delivery driver for papa john's YAH, okay so it's not that great but I really want to know if their is anything I can do that will maintain the longetivity of the truck and give better gas miliage while being easy to install and close to stock. Not for power, it's a V6 RAM so it isn't expected to be fast for me. I have been considering things like Being drastic to removing the seat(never used), or the spare(might be used, but so far never used 5000miles). I do run synthetic 10w30 year round. Any gas miliage improvement would be compounded greatly. I have a very simple truck Reg Cab, auto, v6. I think I should get slightly better mpg and I may once mtbe or other mixtures are removed. Okay so would a different oil weight keep the engine in good physical shape for the long term and give me better numbers? If so what weight? Are their any dead wieghts I may by chance be able to remove? I have a 5000miles baby would getting a msd or ther ignition system help. Is their anything I can do what so ever that is worth while in my mpg not my performance? I was also thinking on an intake system but some I hear aren't restrictive enough and may let harmful particles in to the engine. I am planning on heading to college in say 7 months or so and well this is my truck for 5 years and then hopefully 5 more years. It shall be paid off not by me as a gift for graduating and well I want it to last me a long time even if that mean sacarificing some money here and now. Oh well I am open to suggestions.

Try new plugs. I'm not sure what are best for the RAM, but for the Dak's, autolite 3923's are best, and to some have been the cause of increased gas mileage...

Check around, go to autolite.com and see what plugs they recommend. Stock plugs generally suck ass, so ditch them anyways.

Is it a club cab or regular?

Might want to try removing the tailgate, that is if you don't need it for hauling pizzas. I don't know about the RAM, but the Dakota tailgate weighs over 50 pounds (not to mention aerodynamic drag). An aftermarket, high flow air filter element like ones manufactured by K&N or Holley
will help, as does a performance exhaust or at the least, a performance muffler. Check your tire pressure and make sure that it is at the max for your tires,(don't go over)this will be listed on the tire sidewall, and make sure to add air only when the tires are cold. The ride will be rougher, but you should notice a slight improvement in economy.
