Any idea on the cost of a steering knuckle or tapping out new threads in it? I pulled the good move of stripping BOTH pins while attempting to change pads and rotors. I'm so frustrated, I'm thinking of having a shop re thread the knuckle. Thanks for any advice

There are larger pins and inserts like hella coils, I forget the other type of threaded insert, that can be used to repair the spindle. Do a search, I,m sure you can find it. Another thing is ask lowering shops or ask on the Dakota boards if someone That lowered thier truck, will sell you their old spindles. Good luck.

I was considering doing the helicoil but my dad wouldnt let me put a substitute for the brake system. Think about it. Say you are going 60 mph and your brakes go out on you and you cant stop. Its would be a scary feeling. Just make sure whatever you do you do it right. It might be a little extra, but finding a used spindle from a junk yard would work. I found mine out of luck, because DODGE is on a national back order of spindles. Yeah gl and I hope you find a replacement.

I had the hela coil done, I thought it was safe enough. I found an old thread on the subject. I'm definitley not the first to have this happen. The guy at Murray's tried to sell me a threading compound you spread on the bolt and let sit in the damaged area until it settles. After getting home, I read the package and it specifically said to not use on brake compnents. What an a-hole! for talking me into it. It seems helicoils are the most recommended though. Thanks for the info

NAPA sells self-tapping caliper pins. The thread size is just a little bit larger than the current thread. Works like a champ. I'm running them in my passenger side with no problems.
