Subject: update on tb install and ? about idle
IP: Logged

Message:
i have installed the v8 tb on my truck and reset the pcm i think (unhooked the neg cable from bat and turned key for 30 seconds) it runs great, but the idle acts funny. it will slowly fluctuate between about 700 and 900 on my tach. will this go away with time or should i check my mounting bolts? also the gas pedal is alot harder to push with the new tb. should i buy some return springs and sue them to help ease the tension? i assume that the harder spring on the v8 tb will wreak havok on the cruise control as well

please help

If its hard to push you may have the wrong cable
or something should not be hard to push

try the cruse it should work fine

It should learn the idle did you let it idle for
2 min shut off restart let idle for 2 min shut off
restart and drive.

Did you put a new gasket on the TB and some oil
or grease on the IAC o ring

give it a few hundred miles if it don't straighten
out there are some things you can do to solve that

Daffy, When I put the v8 tb on my truck, I found the pedal to be pretty stiff I picked up a return spring for a GM carb, one spring inside another and bent the hooks on the end of the springs to fit on the linkage. It unstiffen'ed the gas pedal and the cruise control liked it much better, much easier to tromp.

yeah wadak thats what i did today, and to larry yeah on the new gasket i used vasoline in the o ring and i drilled out the disk on the v8 tb and used a holley screw on ball stud.
about the idle thing. no i didnt really because on inital start up, the throttle cable was wedged aginst a black protrusion on the v8 tb's linkage arm. idle was at 3,000 this frightned me so i shut it off with it only running 10 seconds or so. got out the dremel and cut that thing off
now its fine except for the weird idle also if im not mistaken wouldnt the slightly open throttle throw my tps signal off too? if so then i will positively reset my computer again. furthermore should i disconnect my power cap for my audio system to completely deprive my system of juice?

sorry for the long winded post

many thanks

Daffy, I had the same thing happen on my 92 4x4 dak 5.2 afer doing the TPS mod. At idle it would cycle up and down between 600 and 900. I double checked the linkage to make sure nothing was sticking, even sprayeed alittle WD4o on all linkage parts. After starting it up again it did the same thing. I reset the PCM again and the problem cleared.

Yes do another reset it will learn in time but if
it was stuck open the first time started it would
never learn the idle setings.

it will take 50 miles for a short term learn and
2 to 300 to completly learn the new body after 50
miles every time you drive it for the next few
hundred miles it will seam a little better each time
