Subject: Why the rough idle?
IP: Logged

Message:
I know that my idle stays higher until the engine warms up, but when it is at normal idle it sounds like it is jumping up and down about 5 to 10 rpms, every few seconds. I have new factory champion plugs, new brass cap and rotor. Going to put new Napa wires on, the wires that are on there are not that old. I also have the flowsmaster 40 Series. I am wondering if it could be the something in the valvetrain, because I get like a clatter sound/knock from under both valve covers. I am wondering if that would be the problem. I am planning on putting 1.7 roller rockers on from harlandsharp.com. would this correct the problem of the idle? I know it would probably correct the clatter noise. I might need new pushrods if they are worn too. Well any help is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Clean your IAC with carb cleaner and the seat
it goes in

back of throttle body #20 or #25 torx bit

do not force the valve or try to twist it

If you watch the idle speed on any of these trucks
with a scnner they constantly change a little
but should not be noticeable

Make sure that your plugs are gapped right. If they aren't it will seem as if you aren't running on all cylinders. Also you may even have bad gas, throw in some dry gas. The clatter sounds to me like a lifter tick. You can try and take off the valve cover(s) and tighten down your rockers. Make sure you spin the pushrods while you tighten them to get them properly seated.
