On my 94 3.9l I have been having this proplem for 2 years now, I want to fix it. It is minor but annoying. Even before I swithed the motor out, it has done this. When i turn the key over the first time no matter how long i hold it , it just turns over with no start., but if i turn the key over a second time it starts right away.

Things I have replaced,(cap, rotor, plugs, wires, all sensors cleaned and or replaced, tps sensor is showing .75, v8 tb, advanced crank sensor, e-fan, fuel pump 2 months ago, homebrew intake, dynomax muff, 180 t stat, new starter). I have not done anything with coil, and I have checked what I can visually see as far as wiring , and I have not checked egr, but there are no vacuum leaks. Just a little annoying after doing all this work and no fire on first crank, wife looks at me funny if ya know what I mean, appreciate your input, thaks Eric

What that may be is a bad conection in the wire
harnas

about a foot back from the power dist box under
the hood drivers side

you need to untape the wire harness and you will
find a red wire with a conector that goes to 3
other wires and the conection caroads and loses
contact

IGN
FUEL
PCM

it feeds these 3 things and is well documented for
going bad there is a chrysler TSB Tech service
buliton on it.

Solder all the wires togather tape with vinal or
plastic tape than friction cloth tape after the
repair is made

Larry, I stripped the whole wiring harness and re did nicely the only thing I found drivers side (like you said) was red wire white tracer going to the three different places. It looked real good, they were crimped together, so I soldered them, no workie still Will not fire on first turn. Must turn key over a few times for start, but when it does start it fires right up no hesitation. could it be coil related?? With didg volt meter any way to check coil or anything else. Thanks

I was thinking about this problem if it does it
all the time it should be easy to pinpoint

Heres what you do when you go to start it let it
turn over for 15 to 20 secs.

Now pull a spark plug and see what you have

If wet its spark
if dry its fuel

see what you get and we can go from there

Try'em at .045 and see how it runs, the stock ignition should be able to handle it. IF you have the money add a MSD system.

I thought it sounded like a relay now you need
to remember which one you switched and replace
the one that is going bad.

because where ever you put it might give you probs

yes the stock IGN will handle a .045 gap open
them up and give it a try on your G2 they are easy
to get to

I don't want to but in on this here, but it's probably just the relay you switched... Get that one replaced, unhook your battery "do all of this after you get your trouble codes to compare to of course as Larry advised", then after you unhook the battery rehook after 10 to 30mins "all vehicles seem to be different" and see if anything comes back up...

I have been having trouble with my 89 dakota. Bofore it would run fine sometime and other's it would just run at wide open throttle and would not idle, like fuel loss but it's getting fuel. Now it's to the point that it will not start. It's firing and getting fuel but just will not start and help would be awsome thank't guys.
