Engine wear does increase with lower temps, but there's a very narrow range. Below 160 degrees the wear curve increases dramatically. Much above 200 degrees doesn't matter because you will boil over anyway. The 195 degree stat helps with emissions, but the computer is tuned for best power at 182 degrees. Also, pre-ignition (pinging) is much more damaging than the miniscule difference in the wear with a 180 vs 195. Here's an example of what pinging "feels" like to an engine. Have you ever been walking along and you get to a hollowed out area in the ground, or a step-down on the sidewalk that you didn't see? Remember how it felt in your gut when you stepped out, dropped into the hole, and the rest of your body caught up? Clunk! Right in the gut. The pre-ignition does the same basic thing. It's firing lighting off too soon, and slamming against the crank in the opposite direction. If you want to be convinced, get the books that cover this and read them. If you're still not convinced, hey, as already stated, enjoy the pinging.

Yeah... dak94. Even the people at Chrysler admit that the truck will run better at 182 degrees, but for emissions they have to run 195 degree thermostats.

Read on my friend

the 195 was instaled at the factory to help
emissions only, not for better power and gas
mileage
