Subject: Water pump question

Message:

Mine is a 2000 and the water pump needs to be replaced (starting to leak). My question is are there any better aftermarket water pumps that I should consider or shall I just replace it with an OE one??

Thanks.

I don't think there is much to be gained with an aftermarket belt driven pump, this one is also used on the V8. One thing to consider is weather you plan to run underdrive pulleys at a future date. The O.E. replacement for all magnums is now provided with the pulley welded to the hub, if yours bolted on with 4 bolts and you want to keep different pulleys an option, shop the aftermarket.

Do not reuse your old bypass hose! This will usually fail at the most inopportune time and it's not much fun to disassemble twice. If there is an industrial supplier in your area you may be able to substitute a piece of silicone hose for less than the cost of the hose (like large trucks use). I hate that heater hose tube, you can now get them from AutoZone in the help section, and I don't remember the price. My truck had a pipe fitting, so I tapped the new pump and used some sealant. I don't want my cooling system relying on an o-ring provided by the lowest bidder to seal it. I hope it warms up outside,20 is not fun to work in.
