Subject: throttle cable bracket??
IP: Logged

Message:
i have just purchased a v8 throttle body from ebay (it should arrive shortly) and was wondering if the bracket on the side can be transplanted to the new tb from my v6 because the v8 tb dosent come with one

pics of the tb here

also i have herd that the v8 tb might be a little too big to go on my manifold is this true or is this only for those 50mm+ sizes?

I just put a v8 tb on my truck a few weeks ago. I didn't want to buy a cable, so me and my dad went to work on it, lol. Anyway, it fit perfect for me, the only thing i bought was a new tb gasket, it was like 2.33 or something like that. What we did was this:
1) Grind the butterfly post smooth to the cable bracket.
2) You should be able to see small lines where the post goes through the bracket, take a small tear-drop grinder and grind that out a little.
3) Do the same thing with your v6.
4) A little bit of light hammering should knock it out of there, then swap them over.
5) After we swapped them over, we put four small tack welds, one per side just to make sure.
6) Swap all of the sensors, they will all swap perfectly.
7) Enjoy your completely new mid-range torque.

Aaron

P.S. Don't forget to reset your PCM. I unhooked my battery before I ever started the tb swap, and left the key on the whole time.

God Bless, Aaron

Someone said, on one of these threads, that they ground the edges of the disc down a little on the V8 throttle body to accomodate the smaller hole on the V6 throttle cable.

And now that I think about it, why can't you just remove the V8 throttle arm config and swap it with the V6 throttle arm config. I think the only thing you'd might have to change are the location of the holes on the throttle flaps and of course the flaps themselves.

I've already made the swap and bought the cable (V8 TB with all sensors... $45!!! at auto junk yard. V8 TB cable from dealer.. $47.. BASTARDS!! ((few auto yards salvage the cables if any)))

If you do the V8 cable, use a lighter to heat up the plastic (on the cabside of the firewall) to get the V6 cable out of the hole. Save the spacer (plastic cylinder with rubber grommet) from the V6. Use a hacksaw and cut it down the middle so it looks like a 'C' from the top and add it to your cable once you get it on the peddle. (takes up the slack) I used some left over RTV silicone to keep it from opening back up once on.

OOOOHHH YEAH, don't forget to port that bad boy before you put it on.
Here's directions..
damn I cleared the history on my browser..
just enter TB PORT in the search here on this board and eventually you'll find it
I didn't read about it until I had already put on my V8 TB. The difference was noticeable.

Also Check your TPS sensor voltage (check tips and tricks at www.speedtweaks.com) If it's .67V or so and above, don't worry about it. I don't think it makes a difference, from personal experience.

I also noticed that before I did the TB Port, my engine loped at idle. When I put the TB back on it didn't. Either I didn't tighten down the TB bolts down tight enough, or (i did the tps trick with my V6 TPS sensor @ .76V) I was getting some problems from the tricked out V6 TPS sensor, it sounded like something was loose in there when I shook it. I said screw it and used the non noise making V8 TPS that came with the TB @ .67V

Hope that helped.

so i dont have to resize the intake manifold holes for my new tb? i dont have access to a welder, so i think i will just drill out the disc on the v8 tb and put a ball stud in. it sure sounds hard to swap the bracket i thought maybe it was just screwed on. :-(
maybe i should just send it somewhere to get a bracket put on it.

Pulling out that arm isn't hard, just remove the four torx screws holding the flaps on, push out the flaps, and twist and pull the whole thing out.

I did it on my V8 TB when I ported it, no problems. Just remember to put some LOCK-TITE on those screws, don't want them to back out into the manifold.

As far as messing with openning up the ports on the manifold, I wouldn't. I'd just go with a better manifold, as taking it off seems to be quite some work. Mine fit just fine. I have a '98 dak and got one from a '99 5.2

so you see what i mean the black bracket is missing from the side (not the control arm, the bracket that the cables mount in so they can pull on the throttle arm)

heres the pic of it
so i need to know if i can take the side bracket off my v6 tb or do i need to buy one?
