Subject: TPS mod question

Message:
I performed the TPS modification as described on Speedtweaks, and I have a question. I can only get it to adjust up to .658 volts. I started with .402, so its better, and I can tell the difference in the throttle, but i can't get to .7 volts without boring the holes larger than I feel is safe. The plastic is pretty thin now, I drilled it a little after removing the brass inserts. I guess I'm stuck with what I have now, but I am just wondering if I got the adjustment close enough. So should I even care about it?? Anybody got an opinion??

I would leave well enough alone. If you
question whether its safe to go further it
probably isnt worth it. I know that every extra
little bit makes a difference but I wouldnt
chance it, gut instincts are usually right on
those kinds of things. Murphys Law: If
something bad can happen it probably will.
Spend the time cleaning the TB and making it
nice and slick to take advantage of that new
throttle response!!

To my understanding, they heat up and should slide out with the force of the drill and extra elbow grease. Give it time. Let me know how it works out, I'm tackling that tweak-mod myself real soon.

96Dak.SLT,

you might try an impact driver with the correct bit. You know, one of those little things you hit with a hammer to get out stuck bolts. I have an aftermarket TB with allen head bolts, I really can't remember what kind of head the original bolts had.

After driving around today I noticed significant improvement in response. Before, I would often get a serious lag and occasionally almost a backfire through the intake when hitting the throttle hard from idle. Now i get an almost instant positive response. I don't know if the backfire is really gone yet, its too soon to tell that, as it only does it once in a while.

After you drill out the inserts, you can turn the sensor slightly and then tighten down the screws. When you turn it, it changes the voltage reading on the center wire. You turn it towards the front of the truck to increase the voltage (on my truck anyways), then tighten it down when you get the voltage where you want it. I also drilled out some of the plastic to get more adjustment, but I couldn't quite get .7 volts. And, I don't want to risk breaking a potentially expensive sensor. Anybody know how much these things cost, anyways??

Shawn
