my dealer told me universal joint is going...quoted me $270 fix (cant remember if that includes labor)

Is that about right or am i getting hosed?

Is this normal on a 2000 4X4 with 62k? it seems premature.

I replaced a universal joint on my last truck (89 Dodge Van). If I remember correctly, the part only cost about $10. I did the work myself in about an hour.

So to answer your question, I think $270 to install one u-joint (or all the u-joints) is very high. I'd look elsewhere if you can't do the work yourself. You should be able to get a better price than that.

Try shopping around at independant shops. Any shop should be able to install a U-joint for you.

Just had both mine done for $65. Done at 66K and they were BAD.
