As this has been dragged around here before the 3.9 mag is pretty much the 5.2 just w/ 2 missing cylindars. My dad has the 318 in his work van (93 dodge white cargo van) He is a contractor and hauls a lot of weight in his van. Between all the tools, shelves, and appliances he hauls around he has alot of weight packed in it. He also has a 16' dual axle trailor he pulls with it that he throws his scafold & planks on. Obviously he needed a reliable engine and one that would last for the working conditions. Not once has anything major happened. His last 318 he had nearly 250K miles on it and the air conditioner was the only thing that gave out and just ended up gettin this newer magnum. But yet nothing has happened to this one as you know how reliable the 318 is.

With all this talk whats the most "extreme your 3.9/5.2 has been through?
I have 129,000miles on my 93dakota and has been through hell and back. I got stuck one time while I was hunting and was down in a slope off the main road. Being that my truck is not 4X4 I redlined that thing a couple of times and ended up getting half way up the muddy hill and my dad pulled me up the other half with his van. That was enough hell raising there between all the tromping and burned tire smell from the rocks up on top of the hill. The second instance would have to be when my gas peddle got stuck and I try to dog it out but couldnt so I SLAMMED THE THING IN PARK. And guess what?? Did not do anything to the tranny!! My truck also has sticky valves so in the mornings when im taking off it dont want to shift, revs up real high and then finally shifts. Your prob asking me why I dont get it fixed...?? Well its a DODGE transmission so why should I. Share your stories here!

My friend has a 93 dak with a 3.9. Changed the engine at 380,000 Km. He pulls a 3700lb car on a 1800lb trailer with it.

We had a 9? ram with a 318 come in to our shop for a water pump. It had 430,000 Km on it and was the first real repair other than regular maitnence.

my dad's work truck (99 ram 170,000 miles) has been in 2 accidents the first one was the previous owner its still all origonal
the mose recent one he rear ended a chevy tahoe at 40mph smashed it all to hell and his truck KEPT RUNNING!!! the airbags didnt even go off.. the tahoe was destroyed it was towed away and my dad was able to drive the ram to the body shop so they could fix the hood (bent the hood up slightly)
he has a large metal tool box in the bed full of tools and the impact was so hard it wedged the toolbox into the ladder rack and had to be pryed out with a crowbar. needless to day this is a great truck even though it pings a little and burns oil (intake plenum pan, the company refuses to fis it because its still running) gotta love that 5.2:-) too bad i got a 3.9 in my dak lol

40mph??? Gonna have to raise the bullshlt flag on this one. At 40mph your dad would have been eating whatever was in the back of that Tahoe, after eating a couple of sheets of glass first.

I'd call the NHTSA. The airbags should deploy at 5mph. If theye didn't go off at 40mph then something is not workoing right.

he said he was going 40 likely that he was going 25 or so, the airbags should have deployed your right. the report said there was 14.6 ft of skidmarks
the tahoe wasnt stationary it was slowing down to get ready to turn
