Subject: B2 Baldwin filters on 3.9

Message:
Does anyone know if there is plenty of room for the Baldwin B2 filter (longer version of B34, I think?) on a 2000 Dakota 3.9L, or is the fit pretty tight?

Thanks

B2 is the longer version of the B34. It has the same thread and 8 psi by-pass valve rating. It is 1-5/16" longer. I measured the clearance on a V-6 previously and it "looked" like it would fit. Try a cheap Supertech ST8A or Fram PH8A for $3.00 (if it doesn't fit you're not going to break the bank).

I run the carquest Wix filters for a 88 318 they
are longer, more capisity and better flow and
you see it on your oil presure it runs higher

The Baldwin is also sold at Napa there gold
filters are baldwin and its an excellent filter
and is the same thing I am doing only with Wix

A longer better filter

Larry,

I was under the impression from NAPA that Wix manufactured its Gold filters, you know otherwise. It doesn't matter to me I know wix makes a really good filter. I looked up the Wix filter to correspond with the Hastings & Baldwin filter, it shows the 51515, sound right? Thanks for the response, I just didn't want to buy the longer filter, get it off and then have to run back and get the shorty because it wouldn't fit. Why would anyone run the shorter filter if the longer will fit? ANother interesting thing, so far all the longer filters I have priced have been cheaper than the shortys. More filter for less money, now I like the sound of that. Thanks again.

Thanks Larry. I think I'll go with the Wix like you suggest, looks like part #51068. I looked and I just am doubtful the B2 has clearance, it is over 5 and 1/4 inches long as compared to the shorty at almost 4, the wix looks to add nother 4/10 of an inch or so to the OEM recomended. Thanks again

The B2 will fit, I own a truck repair shop and we use Baldwin filters alot. The NAPA gold is not made by baldwin it is made by wix. I recommend the Baldwin, they are great filters. Of course I pay $1.65 for my filter on my truck since I get the discount.....so they say! lol
