Subject: The problems with my truck. Help

Ok first, my ABS and BRAKE light are on, comes on every time I start the truck. My speedometer works ALL the time, no problems there.

Second, Every time I rev my truck past 3 grand and let off real quick, it makes a loud metal on metal banging noise, almost like someone is hitting my flowmaster with a ratchet. The cat is cut off.

Power steering fluid leaks. I go through a quart ever 10 days. It seems like it is leaking from the bottom part of the steering, like on the rack. The hoses and pump are clean, the rack is all dirty and grimey.

Gas Gauge is way off. I can put ten dollars in it when the tank is on empty. After I have drove for about 30 seconds it goes back down to empty, I have no idea how many miles I can drive before running out.

I have got my second speeding ticket now since I have put on my taller tires. I think im going 60 when I am actually going 72. I am tired of paying 145 dollars for court supervision. How can I fix this without taking it to the dealer to flash it.

Oh yeah, after I start the truck, and turn the heat on (not blower speed) I hear a wierd popping noise from under the passenger side dash. I think it is somekind of vaccum leak.

1, autozone for a free PCM inspetion
2, no idea
3, seals, easily replaced
4, sending unit, remove tank to do
5, no, unless you know someone with a scanner type tool that can do it for you, do a search as someone in the last week was talking about doing the same thing.

If the ABS light stays on you have a problem in the system. AutoZone may not be able to scan your system, the plug for this is beneath your steering column pinned to the plastic panel. You may have to have it checked with a Chrysler friendly scan tool. Your metal noise may be the all too common crackle/backfire from closing the throttle caused by the PCM and amplified by the lack of a catalytic converter. Do a search here for more info on this. Clean / degrease the rack and look for the area that the fluid leaks from. The seals "list" said are easy and not very expensive, however if it is coming from the inner tie rod dust bellows it might be time to price a reman. rack assembly. Some parts stores sell a florescent dye you can add to the P/S fluid and trace with a black light. For your sending unit, drop the tank or remove the bed bolts, unplug the taillight harness and have a friend or three help you remove the bed. It's possible that the tank fuel pump/sending unit module is installed wrong or something has bumped the tank and altered it, price a replacement just in case. Check for bad connection or a bad ground also. Lastly, check for people who do speedometer calibration, sometimes it can reduce or eliminate your ticket. Just a rule of thumb, the taller your tires the fewer teeth are needed on the speedometer/speed sensor pinion gear but I lack a chart to tell you what works. Good luck with it you have some real challenges.

sounds like you have some very bad ground problems

KRC makes a speedo corection box or any dealer
can change the comp for you

The pop under the dash is a vacume pot activating
to change like from defrost to heat but it should
hold the vacume so that tells me you may also
have a vacume leak in the system it should hold
vac for hours after the truck is shut down you
can change settings and hear the pot activate
before even starting the motor

1. I think the ABS and Brake light are my speed sensor. Maybe??

2. When it revs down I DO hear the normal cackle, along with the clank. Before I took off the cat, it was soo busted up in there, that it rattled so loud at idle, that I couldnt hear the radio. I think that maybe some cat guts (hehe) busted up and flew into my flowmaster. But isnt there a wire mesh to prevent this???

3. HEy, it's a leak, I don't know where. I think I'll degrease and power wash the whole rack and box, and try that flurecent dye. Does anybody know if that works good. Does auto zone sell it.

4. We already replaced the sending unit once already.

5. Will a 5 star dealer fix this problem. How much?

6. There is a vierd vaccum pot thing above my passenger floormat that I unplugged when I was installing wy power door locks, I plugged the hose back in, but It started doing the pop right after that. You think I could put some lube on it to seal 'er up.

Also have another problem. The tranny on fairly cold days, 20 degrees or higher, will not lock up the converter. AND on days under 20 degrees, it will not go into overdrive, even after I have drove it for an hour. Its got 107,000 miles on it, will I screw my tranny up If I change the fluid/filter.
