Subject: Loud Pop from rear while stuck in snow

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and see if anyone has the slightest idea what this might be before I take my Dak into the dealer. I'm a bit mechanically DEclined when it comes to this stuff:

I have a 2002 2WD V6 Dak sport. I got caught in a parking spot with some ice and snow last night and had some trouble getting out (damn factory tires suck). Anyway, while spinning on the ice, trying to rock myself back and forth to get out, I noticed that the left back driver's side tire was spinning while the other was totally still. I assume this is normal on a 2wd without limited slip, right? So, while I was spinning and rocking, shifting between drive and reverse, I heard a loud pop come from the rear. Any remote idea what this might have been?

Thanks for your help and patience.

dont worry about the one tire spinning, thats only the diff doing what it is supposed to, transfering power to the wheel thats easier to turn. the pop could have been a few things, maybe you kicked a rock up and hit your bed, or it could have been your ring and pinion as it skipped a tooth and made the noise, what ever it was, as long as there is no noise coming from back there now, it could be fine. if you take it to the dealership, let me know what they say, Steve
