Message:
I got my new auto Xray to day and ran a quick check of my 98 cc today. I am trying to interpret the results. I hoped you could help
Load value 3.9%
Coolant temp 181 f
Short term fuel 7.0 %
long term fuel -1.6%
map sen. 10 in. hg
rpm 697
Ig. advance 13.5
IAT 167 f
Throttle Pos. 10%
O2 #1 1.000
short term fuel trim1 4%
O2 #2 0.220

Thats all that I got. I was wondering if any of them would indicate why my fuel mileage had dropped?
Thanks
John

Throttle Pos. 10%
This should be 0 at idle 0% of WOT

It should also tell you open or closed loop

O2 #1 1.000 this should not be a constant voltage
at operating temp, bad o2 will effect gas mileage
a lot

Is the o2 changing costantly from like .1 to 1 volt

Whith the truck running push power let it
intialize now scan enter let it scan, now hit scan
and return to main screen now hit data and you
will read live sensor info and check that o2 while
running.

Watch the data and rev the motor a little you
should see thigs change like rpm vac ect if not
hit MON that turns live on and off

unless tou did the scan key on not running

What model scanner did you get

Thanks

You can do it just running sitting still and see
live data you don't need to be going down the road

1 thing I forgot to mention seeing all the missing
data is the up down will go through 10 at a time
left right buttons 1 at a time.

You should see open closed loop YES
Vacume just like a guage 18.9 is about normal on
a V6 my stroker with the hot cam is 1 less 17.9

But there are a lot of things you did not list

cold weather will also effect gas mileage

Larry: It is Auto X ray ez link part#705-0001-002ai I rescanned it when I got home and it is closed loop and the other values were about the same. I ran it in real time monitoring and the tps never registered below 10%. a while back I tried to check it with the key on using a digital vom and I never could get a consistent reading. I have to work tomorrow but I think I will try replacing the tps and see what results I get. I will drive it about 400 miles tomorrow and am curious to see what kind of mileage that I will get. I really appreciate your help. Thanks

Yes it does look bad it should read 0% of WOT not
10% and also the load value should be 0 that may
also be the TPS

I have seen a few TPS's like that changing all the
time never being constant.

There should also be a o2 bank you can watch live
that will change rich, center lean rich center
lean telling you the o2 is working properly and
also the changing voltage on the o2 .1 to 1 volt

You just hit the tip of the ice berg the scanner
will read over 30 diff things

You should also be able to read TPS volts with the
scanner and manifold vacume in inches, you just
need to play with it more remember the up down
buttons go through the data 10 at a time skiping
a lot of them the left right arrow buttons go 1 at
a time and you will see them all.

Short term fuel 7.0 %
long term fuel -1.6%

Nice fuel trim on my stroker its 97% if I mod the
motor any more I will have to go with a fuel
controler again don't want to its to hard to tune
it in.

xmr, you should write a product review for the
board about the scanner so people would know if
they want one or not.

I did for the OBD 1 but mark has not put it over
there yet. $140

You can get the OBD 2 AutoXray scanner at
Autocheckup for $219 you may be able top find a
better price but this company is reliable and fast
with free UPS Ground shipping anything over $125

http://www.autocheckup.com/

Checker Auto Parts America also handles the
scanners and most stores have them in stock if
there price is high check on there website and
print out the page and they will honner the price
a lot of stores jack the price

Larry your are correct I paid 219 total for the scanner. My wife and I have 3 vehicles and all of them are obd11 so I figure that I will get my money's worth. As soon as I get adept at using it I will post a review of the scanner. You were right the folks at auto X ray took my order and within 4 day I had it in my hands courtesy of UPS. Just got in from my trip aveaged 20.7 mpg It was 27 degrees when I left and 49 when I got back home. I have not had time to get a tps but I plan to first thing tomorrow.

The IAT's do get heat soaked from the manifold and
will read high on these motors, at 180 engine temp
most will read 160.

But yes you should be reading 0% of wot so there
is something up with your TPS

finaly got my tps and iat installed and here are the new readings
Fuel syst. Closed Loop
Load Value 4.30
Coolant temp 194
Short term fuel trim 1 4.6
Long term fuel trim1 .80
MAP sensot 10 hg
rpm 688
vehicle speed -0-
Ign tim.adv 17.5
iat 147
throtte pos. 12 deg
O2 1 bank 0.78
short term fuel trim 1 -4.00
O2 sensor 2 .82

I can't figure out why the throtte postition has changed to 12%. when I put the new tps on I had to file the tubes to an oval shape and grind off the threads on the mounting screws to get the voltage reading up to .66 when I first punt in in the best reading that I could get was .502. the .66 seemd like the best that I could get without tearing things up. when I get time and it is warmer I need to install my 180 t-stat and move my iat and see what happens. The truck runs great and it seems to shift much better with the new tps. So far no improvement in mileage and I have driven about 300 miles.
after I got the autoXray I decided to also order the PC-500 option to allow me to load the info into my PC it seems to work fine but is lacking in sofisticated tools to make it more useful.

Ok start let idle shut off start idle shut off
do this about 3 or 4 times and the comp will
pick up the new TPS reading.

If you scaned right after adjusting it would not
read right.

It should be 0 load 0% of WOT at idle there is
something up there try what I said above and
recheck

Yes the TPS controls the lockup clutch and O/D
shift and will make the trans shift funny if
not right.

1 - 2 - 3 - 3rd lockup - O/D

1-2-3 is controled buy the cable lockup and O/D
TPS and MAP load on motor

Larry: I tried letting it idle for 3 min. and then shutting it off for 4 times then drove it about 20 miles to warm it up and did a scan it still shows 12 deg. I checked wot and it shows 71 deg.. The old tps showed 10 deg. and the new one did until I modded it to get it up to .66.
Does these strange reading affect the operation of the truck? It seems to run fine. Any thing else that I can do?

No it will not effect the running it will learn
the new TPS settings in a few hundred miles and
maintain the 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio

The higher TPS voltage will give you just a little
higher shift points which is always better for
perf and a lttle faster reaction on downshifts
as you already found out saying your trans shifts
better

You can scan 2 ways running or with just the key
on and read the values

So far I have scanned it idling, running down the road in monitor function, parked and revving the motor and with just the key on motor not running. ( thats how I got the wot reading I tried to do it on the road but it was about to get away with me) I am trying to build a file of several scans in my PC so I can compare them from time to time and look for variations if it is not running right. I really appreciate you help. All this data is hard to interpret especially without a reference book. My Haynes manual just does not give all the info you need.
