ok, so i've run a tank and a half of reg unleaded since my switch to ap3923s, over 200 miles to let the computer adjust.
ping is back.
theres a definate hp increase, don't really know for sure what that sould feel like, but the truck has a lot more pep, so i assume thats hp.
but, the ping is back.
the ping is back!
the ping is back!
the ping is back!
aaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!

hehe.

so, if i reduce the gap on the plugs, will that help reduce ping since these are cooler-than-stock plugs?

thanks,
jeff

You need to open the gap of the AP's up at .005" over stock. If you had the copper (A3923's) then you could leave them at stock gap. Pull them out and open the gaps up and see if it still pings....

If you reduse the gap the spark will be hotter

open it you can run .040 .045 on the AP plugs
opening the gap will cool the spark due to the
less resistance the plat tip has to fire the
plug. to a point after you reach that point the
heat will increase

What did you gap them at.

If you still have the ping there are other things
you can try, colder themo, 1 grade higher gas

In a lot of trucks you can notice an increse in
performance going to the AP3923's, I just put
a set of AP5224's in the stocker I am running
untill my stroker is ready to go back in, have
only driven it 10 miles since the change from the
AP3923 so don't know how it will react yet the
Autolite plugs stack up like this

1 colder 3923, about half range hotter 5224, hotter
1 range 3924

So let me get this straight.....

The general consensus is that the AP(autolite platinum’s) is better then the regular 3923?

What plug should I go with once I install the
msd 6a and blaster ss.? AP or A? Also am i correct to gap them at .60 with the msd setup?

I always run 93 octane too, if that means anything.

What do you suggest Larry?

Yes the AP's are better because you can run a
wider gap.

Unless you are running nitrious an S/C or a Turbo
than you need to gap them smaller

Yes MSD box and coil go .060 you will notice the
improvement in performance instantly the first
time you drive the truck

That is what an aftermarket is for hotter spark
alowing you to run a wider gap, bigger flame front
and a faster burn means more power

larry -
i had them at .040 and i just opened them up slightly. will see what happens.
i'm tired of paying for the higher octane gas.
as for the thermo, from what i've read about the swap process, its a little more involved than i have the mechanical patience for. (i'm a chef, not a mechanic!) ;)

i might have to just give up and let the dealer screw with my computer. lol.

so my question now is, should i go with AP at .60 or stick with my already bought and gapped A's?

basically is it worth a trip back to wallyworld, a long wait in return line?

I would go with the AP's and gap them .060 after
you get the MSD system in not before.

Its well worth the money with the MSD system

You will also need the tach adapter on your truck
with the MSD system

You can run the reg 3923's at .050 with the MSD
you will just not get quite as much performance
improvement with them

I didn't have an adapter before, but it did like to throw some codes every now and then.

I am installing today so i will let you know how it goes.

nah, no tach adapter. I dont think i really need one unless it is some how taking away performence.

Seat of pants dyno is good, and it pulls a lot more now. A definite increase.

Now i just await my superchips tuner.
