I have a problem with my '90 dodge dakota v6. the problem is that when i try to get up to highway speed (step on the gas) or increase my rpms, my truck sputters, coughs, and misses, but as soon as i let off the gas it ok. i can rev at about 2300 before this happens. The wierd thing is this only happens when the vehicle is warm and if ur driving and put it neutral, shut the key off, start it back off, and start driving again its fine for another couple minutes. everything to do with spark, distributor, and fuel has been checked and replaced as necessary. my next course of action is to replace the computer. however if anyone out there has suggestions i'd be more than happy to here from u. thanx.

Dazed and Trevor...don't replace the computer yet! That is way too expensive and probably not necessary.

For Dazed: Try the hall effects pick up. It is a little black disk inside the distributor under the rotor and seems to play a big part in Mopar products stalling intermittently. Do you have a repair manual? I'll give you the explanations of your fault codes when I get home tonight if not. Also, who checked the fuel system and what did they check, it doesn't sound like you've been to the dealer.

For Trevor: My best guess for your problem is the EGR valve. This is a heat sensitive part that if not operating properly can cause those symptoms and even stalling. (I didn't say this to dazed because he didn't say it's related to heat) In any case get the valve checked or if you know it's been 50,000 since it was replaced get a new one...from the dealer. The aftermarket ones do not work! The factory unit is drilled for your specfic engine, the aftermarket ones come with a set of washers to change the diameter of the hole depending on what kind of vehicle you have.

I have a 1990 dodge dakota that stalls when warm, usually 20 min. after starting. I have replaced the engine control module, plugs, plug wires, coil, the ignition pick up in the distributor without any improvement. What should I do next?

Check fault codes. Check the splice near the relay box.
