Just thought I'd let you all know what's going on with my Dak. Figured a new post was best.

After installing the new distributor, I put in the new O2 sensor. Thought it was going to be hard, wish everything was as easy, no problem with the truck up on the ramps and I used a cresent wrench to boot cause it was handy, took about 10 min. total.

Finally got a timing light on it Friday. Set right around 12 deg. Running damn good at the moment, haven't drove very far yet, but it's idling real good and doesn't act like it's going to die when I start coming to a stop\stopping, etc. Idles at about 800 I believe it was, that seem about right? I put a tack in yesterday, hated not knowing where it was running, shifting ect.

Now, I can start tackling the heater blower problem once again. No Larry, I haven't found it yet. Started having the running problems and just put it on hold. I put a new resitor in back in Dec. just for the hell of it since it was a cheap part. Didn't make any diff. I've pulled most of the grounds and cleaned them but haven't done the test on the blower itself yet(where you told me to run a direct hot to blower & ground it good, unless there is a wire in engine compartment or easy to get at for this, will need to do a little dismantling of the dash. I did checked the power at the blower plug in under dash, had power there. Guess I'll get on checking it and then the switch unless I get lucky and find a bad/burnt wires before hand.

I found melted and fuzed wires yesterday, blue & blue/white, most were to the cruise, and coming from fuze box, in the column, steering wheel and under dash and to EMR module. I had noticed some bare looking wires when I put a custom steering wheel on it in Dec. They were to the cruise, so I knew why it wasn't working and had unplugged all the wires to it till I could tackle it. A previous owner had had the steering wheel apart for some reason and top was gone off it.

By fixing the wires, ended up with a check engine light I never had before, I reset the module and all is well there. Haven't checked to see if cruise is working yet, I want to make sure the main ground to it is on the fenderwell and good like it's suppose to be, have more wires to untape. Eventually, everything will have new tape and the old cloth crap will be gone.

Had planed to work on the heater yesterday, but that was were I ended up after finding the wires under the dash. Seems like that always happens when you plan to work on one thing, something else rear's it's ugly head. LOL :)
Hopefully will have a day in the 50's and 40's again this week and I'll want to tackle it again. Have ice & snow today.
If I let it warm up good, it gets pretty warm in their just from the blow by as long as temp outside is at least 30, it's pretty standable.
Sorry this has gotten so long.

All for now and thanks to ALL for your help!!
Diane:)

40's and 50's how nice that would be its been
between 5 above and 24 below here for the past 2
weeks. BURR that's cold

Seeing your knoleage and ability Diane you will
figure out the blower prob.

If you have power to the plug and replaced the
resistor the only thing left is either a bad
ground or the blower motor itself is bad on a
truck of that year its a good posibility.

Glad to hear its running so well after the new o2
it does make a big diff

Thanks Larry,
Damn, thats cold. We were having days in the low 20's, then Fri. & Sat. it warmed a bit. Back to the cold today, ice then snow. I think low 20's. 30 will feel warm as hell to you when you get it again, won't it? Stay warm!!
Thanks for the confidence in me on the heater prob. I hope your right. I have a thing for being determined, if you know what I mean, That help's a lot. LOL

I was just at the mrgasket.com as I've aquired some accel 8.8 spiral core plug wires(never used) but they are HEI's.

I know you and a lot of the guys highly recommend the MSD's, which was what I had planned on getting eventually, but "You can't look a gift horse in the mouth", as they say.

Anyway, I'm looking on there to get some straight terminals and boots. I found these: Accel - Part No: 170059 Boot/Terminal Kit; Distributor & Coil; Black; 8.8 - 9mm Straight Socket Or Points Style

Since I'm going to put these bigger wires on, what do you think? Should I get a better coil when I go to these wires or will it matter a lot if I wait a while? I guess what I want to know is will the bigger wires still be of benifit on the stock motor without any other up grades at this time?

Also, I had a couple extra terminals/boots lying around from and old universal set, (pretty skimpy wires). I put them on one of the new wires, even though terminals were a bit small & short, just to see how they were going to look, (playing, LOL) They were really tough to get to snap in the dist cap nipples the way they should.

I would think the bigger the wire is, the longer the terminal would be, which I beleive would solve the problem, am I right in this assumption, or is that just the stock dist cap?

Thanks in advance for any help you or anyone feels like giving, Diane

Thanks Wadak, How have you been?

I know Larry has been busy with his new gig with the band and all. LOL
I read that post when I first got up this morning. It got my day off to a good, giggling start. Thanks! (I'm patting you on the back now).

Seriously, I hope all is going well for him.

Did you happen to read all my above post?
I was asking about the 8.8 plug wires and wanting to know if I should go ahead and put a better coil on when I put them on. I assume if I don't my stock one will die fairly quick.
You had mentioned about the MSD ignition.
The MSD 5 - # 5200, right? And Blaster 2 coil... Which one should I get:
MSD 8200 (for MSD or OEM ignitions)
or
8202 (for MSD ignitions).

I had looked on the Summit site a couple nights ago and now I'm just looking in the catalog. If you don't know the #'s for sure, don't go through any trouble for them. I can search here some also. I'm hoping to order within the next week or two, (I'm working on my taxes, will have some extra jack, LOL).

I might go ahead and see if Summit still has the shorty headers Larry was telling me about and go ahead and get them. I want to have somewhat of a plan and the parts all ready and waiting for some spare time this spring/summer. I'll be getting pretty busy with the dump truck once the weather gets better, so I won't have much time to play.

I figure for now: better ignition, K&N drop in, "Get my exhaust finished", (Flowmaster 40 loud in cab with no tail pipe. LOL) It don't sound bad though. Then the headers and maybe rebuild or get another TB. Then run it till it needs a motor.

It does leak some oil around the back of the engine. Not a lot, just enough to keep it a little messy. Can't figure out where it is really coming from. Somewhere around the back of the valve covers I think. I've wipes them down, several times, gaskets are fairly new but maybe they didn't clean the heads/covers off good enough is all I can figure, gonna replace gaskets too I guess.

I had posted somewhere about the duel oil filter set ups I saw on the K&N site. Are they any good and more importantly, would they benifit my truck any. I hate that little filter on the motor. I'm a stickler for changing oil regularly, so maybe it's not a big deal. What do you think?

Ok, Ok, I'd better shut up for now.

Thanks again Wadak

(and anyone who wants to add anything)

Later, Diane

Diane; I checked the Summit web site, I didn't even see the MSD 5 listed. The MSD 6a PN 6200 should also be a good choice, it's actually a heavier duty unit than the MSD 5. Blaster 2 - PN 8200 or 8202 should be a good choice. they should bolt up in palce of your regular coil. I'm runnning the accel 8.8 wires on my Gen 2 5.2 4x4, so far they are working fine with my MSD6a. The only reason for getting the Accel wires, the parts store didn't have the MSD, I needed to get the truck back in service ASAP. Just make sure you get the correct boots for them. The accel wires are 150 ohms per foot, the MSD Super Conductor wires are about 50 ohms per foot. Stock wires are around 1500 ohms or more per foot depending on the maker.
The reason the stock coils fail is the amount of current generated with the low reistance wires, lower resistance more current.
I hope you exhaust isn't too noise when you finish the exhaust. The 40 series flowmaster is pretty loud. I opted for the 70 series on my Gen 2, wanted to keep peace with the neighbors. I also put the 70 series on my Gen3 v6 dak. My son has the American Thunder series Flowmaster on his truck and it's pretty loud too me.
I know that when you get done with all you truck modifications it will have alot more get up and go than it did.
I hope I didn't make Larry mad, by joking around about starting a band. I know if the same thing would of happened to me I would not be a happy camper at all.
The weather here in Puget Sound is just miserable, it's about 50 degrees out which is fine, but a constant down-pour of rain.

Have a good day!
Wadak

Thanks loads, Wadak!
I found the MSD 5, doing manufacurer's search and have it and the 6a on my garage page. The 5 is $84 vs $150. for 6a. States 5 is for stock motors with no major add on's, ie, cam, intake, bigger carb. Does'nt say anything about TBI'ed.
Wonder if this would be as good for my truck. I'm not sure if I'm going to do any of those mods, so I guess maybe I should bite the bullet and get the 6a. I only want to spend $300 to $400 on it right now.

Naw, I like a loud exhaust if it sounds good and listen to the stereo really loud, so that's not an issue for me. When working my dump truck, which is very loud, I'll have stereo blasting and have to have CB blasting at same time so I can hear what's going on, so 40 series isn't really that loud to me.
I acually was debating on 70 vs 40 series, but the day I went shopping, didn't know nobody would have it in stock and wasn't coming home without a new muff. Everywhere I went just about had DeltaFlow 40, so that made up my mind for me.

At least your not having freezing rain.
Weather has been sucking here too. We've been in the teens & low 20's during the day with low wind chills for the past week. I haven't been outside anymore than I have to be. One thing about it when it's that cold, 30's will feel really warm when it comes back.

I don't think you made Larry mad. He has a great outlook and sence of humor by what I've seen of him. Seems like one of those people who bounce back real fast and humor is a big factor in that.

Has he been on the last day or so? I wonder how things are going for him.

Thanks for all your help.
Diane

Thank you Tazzy!! I guess I'll probably end up going with the 6a. set up. I've already got the better wires, as you may have read. So my total will be right around what you say. At least with the 6a, if I decide later to do some heavier mods, it will work for it.

I just asked you on the Pic's thread for info on posting pic's.

Hey Guys,
I just thought of another question.
You all talk about the AP3923's. I assumed this was a magnum thing.
When I go to the MSD set up, should I replace the new AP65's I just put in? Or will I need to regap and change ther. stat too?
Just Wondering...
Thanks

What would I be mad about

Diane, if you go with an MSD system stay with the
AP65's you have but you will need to open the gap
or they will run hot and you will see no gains.

What MSD recomends is keep opening the gap untill
performance drops off than drop back .005 I would
start at .045 and see how it runs

Hi Larry, Good to see you on!!!
I take it you got the stocker motor going and all is well?

What would I be mad about

Wadak had made a comment about you starting a band on the thread: I Blew a Rocker in my Stocker.. and was worried it might have made you mad.

Thank about my plugs. I was hoping all I would have to do is regap them. Probably going to do the ingnition within the next few weeks when I get my tax refund done & back.
When it's time to do a tune up again, I still stay with the stock plugs, right?

Thank you, Diane
