Okay, about a week ago I noticed what appeared to be an oil leak under my truck. Upon inspection, there is absolutly no evidence of oil on the engine. Dealer confirmed this. The problem is, I'm consuming oil. The loss in oil happens to corespond to the start of the leak being noticed. I also don't detect oil being burnt. The only greasy spot on the engine is a wiring cluster running right underneath the power stearing pump.

At the same time this leak developed, I started getting a real loud whine at 50, 60, and 70 mph. This noise is definatly mechanical as it happens regularly. It is also related to speed, not RPM and happens in any gear. Interesting thing to note is that if I push in on the clutch, the whine quickly increases in pitch then stops.

Because the two things started at the same time, I'm thinking that they are connected somehow. I also have noted that the truck seems to be dogging more then usual, especially when warm.

Because of the speed sensitivy of the noise, especially in relation to the clutch being moved, it makes me believe that it's somthing in the tranny past the output shaft. Yet this doesn't explain the leak. Could the power stearing pump be going out and causing this noise, explaining the greasy wiring underneath it? If that's the case, then where's the engine oil going?

alright, the truck started to leak again. This time I swallowed my pride and crawled under in the middle of the parking lot. Turns out to be coolant running down the front of the block.

On that note, how hard is it to change the water pump?
