Subject: V6 stalls when cold
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 Dakota 3.9L V6 auto 4x4. When it is cold the truck start right up but stalls and within a couple of seconds . It will start right up again and do the same thing. If I keep my foot on the gas it idles smoothly but, I must keep it above 1200 rpm. If I take the truck around the block when it is doing this (1 foot gas, 1 foot brake) and I come to a stop it will be fine and idle at around 800 (about normal). This does not happen every morning but the colder it gets (<30f) the more likely it will happen. What is the deal?

Sounds like a problem with you IAC-idle controller on the back of the engine. I had my thottlebody off the other day cleaned it up, put it back on, started it. The truck would run, the moment I let off the gas pedal it died and the check engine light came on. Reconnected the cable up to the IAC, it ran fine.

IAC idle air control selonoid back of TB clean
with carb cleaner don't push pull or twist on
the plunger.

Also check your TPS throttle position sensor
drivers side of TB center wire and ground .35 to
.75 are exceptible limits. key on engine off

IAT incoming air temp sensor #2 runner of intake
Engine temp sensor, down by the thermostat A/C
side.

Both these sensors can be checked with an ohm
meter, if they do not tell the comp they are cold
it will not add the extra fuel to keep it running
when cold.

Just put the word Table in the search and you will
find a post with the tables ohms to temp they
both read the same

Also check your PCV valve to be sure its ok
