Subject: WHICH MODIFICATIONS SHOULD I DO? IP: Logged
Message: Hello gang,
For the past couple of months i have seriously been debating which modifications to do to my 2002 3.9L 4x4 Club Cab Dakota Sport. I was reading on here about how people have done different things to gain more torque and more horsepower out of the v6 3.9L with out swapping it for a v8 and was wondering what you guys thought would be the best mods from the list below?
Jba cat4ward headers
Jba Evol exhaust
Jet Performance Chip
Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer
The truck is completely stock with the exception of street scene grille inserts.
Thanks

I'd say, do the exhaust stuff last...you'll see the biggest difference that way. If you want a performance chip/tuner, get a Superchips Tuner (i think that's the name). Jet chips don't help much at all for the cost. I'd say, go for a cold air intake or at least a good flowing filter, remove the rubber flap in your grill area to let in more cool air, get a v8 throttlebody or modified v6 tb, and then get a different muffler (most recommend dynomax). That's my 2 cents...

Message: To spend as little money as possible and gain as much as you can, follow this example. Replace the stock T-stat with a 180-degree unit, relocate your AIT sensor, modify your TPS sensor, buy or modify a cold air intake, install better plugs/wires/ignition, and the list goes on depending upon the depth of your wallet. You can get bigger cams, intake manifold mods, head porting, bigger valves, headers (I have a pair of JBA headers and I think they suck. I've had to replace two sets of them because of the welds failing and leaking, and the set I have on there now leak.), exhaust blowers, nitrous, etc. Check out KRC performance and www.hughesengines.com for info. Hughes Engines has a section devoted to V6 owners.

Message: my advise, dont listen to gb2000, those are scams. everything they do can be done manually for about 10-20 bucks. they basically do a TPS change, an IAT change and a crank position sensor mod to change timing. all those are very easy to do and cheap, as long as you dont mind getting your hands dirty, if you like to stay clean, then drop about 300 for the chip, but its a total waste.
