Subject: 95 V6 stalling out when slowing down?
IP: Logged

Message:
I live in Fairbanks Ak, and my v6 has been stalling out. It starts fine and then I tap a little bit on the gas and the voltmeter drops down and then kicks back up in park. Once I drive though, the voltmeter will drop down and stall out unless I keep the RPM's up around 1800 or so. I just changed the alternator, so it's not that. It's only been doing it when it's really cold though. I mean in the -30ºF cold range. Still, doesn't make sense. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Ouch that's cold,

First thing to do is check all the connections

Is it dying because of the voltage drop or is the
motor dying causing the voltage drop

any trouble codes

Have the Alt checked although its new it could
still be bad

Mine got to where you couldn't even try to crank it in the cold wheather... I traced it down to the ground attachment right around your powersteering pump... Took it off, cleaned it good, and put it back on good and tight... I have also heard of this problem "not idling and have to keep it reved and then if it dies you have to have it jumped back off at times" due to the battery connections not being the best in the world... Try taking them off and cleaning them up really good as well with tightening them down good, while your into it...

also check the belt for tightness.

when you turn the lights on,does it drop the volts
also?

most part stores have a way to check your charging system with a battery load tester.

usally freebe,freebe,freebe,sorry,TO much monster gargage

I just had the same prob. I cleaned the TB including the Idle control Motor with no luck. I took it too the dealer so they could scope it. I had already change the Fuel pump 2 mos prev. I knew that the O2 and EGR had never been changed .

my dak is a 94 w 165k km.

they threw it on the scope and stated that the EGR was opening to quick and the idle was a little off. the replaced the $85can EGR valve and adjusted the idle and $300 later I'm on the road again.

my dak would start, idle and drive with no indication of trouble until you came to a stop sign or tried to idle around a parking lot. slight tapping of the gas would stall the engine.

i chose to have them replace the EGR as they could resope if that was not the prob

hope this helps

I had a stalling problem associated with a vacuum leak. Magnum intakes have been known to lose the seal at the bottom pan gasket. If this happens you may also notice a detonation problem and increased oil consumption. Also, if you've recently reset your computer you may encounter this problem until the computer fully recalibrates itself.

Double checked the Alternator, and it's good. Serpentine belt is good, battery terms are good. No wire problems or drains in the system. After reading bc/canada post, it sounds identical to what mine is doing. This weekend it hit -58ºF below and it was really trying to die on me when I would come to a stop or idle around in a parking lot. I'm going to change the EGR and see if that fixes it. Thanks so much. I'll let you know if it works. -58ºF Hurts more than the ol' truck.
