0720 OBDii code= "output speed sensor malfunction". THis is what autozone pulled from my PCM in my 98 dak 3.9. Dodge tells me the part is 30 dollars and its located on the rear diff. The thing is a replaced a speed sensor on the rear diff already for a ABS problem is this the same speed sensor or is it a different one.?

Yes they did relocate the speed sensor in 98 to
the Diff

First check and clean all the elec connections
reset and see if it returns

this is getting confusing because dodge told me its on the tranny and I had already replaced on the rear diff I just went and bought this part it looks different than the one I replaced on the rear diff. I'm just wanting to get rid of the code LOL because people are making fun of my electrical tape covering the check engine light. j/k

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4
Symptoms: Late shifts in all gears. If I let off the gas while the rpms were over 2,000 it would finally shift. Pulled the code and got a P0720.
Replaced the Transmission Speed Sensor. It's located on the drivers side-rear (left) of the transmission. Problem resolved. Metered the old sensor and it metered open. Should have read
200 - 1200 ohms. New sensor was $17.99 at Autozone.

My girlfriend had the same symptoms on her truck. Rough shifting from first to second, and then today, her truck finally tripped the check engine light. P0220 Output shaft sensor fail. Went to autozone, replaced the sensor, located on the rear driver's side of the transmission. Meter the old one. Mine metered open. You will lose some fluid in the process, so be quick with the install but don't mess up the plastic threads. Such an easy fix for a problem that people say requires serious transmission work. Hope this helps.

replaced the front sensor on the tranny on the driver's side but still
have the p0720 code. Is it possible the offending sensor is on the
drivers side toward the rear of the transmission? 200 dodge dakota

Yes. In attempting to remove the rear sensor the bolt sheared off
so it is now sitting in the transmission shop!!
