I got a 1987 Dakota w/ 3.9 and a 3 speed Auto Tranny. The problem is that when shifting from 1st to 2nd everything goes nice and smooth but when going from 2nd to 3rd it seems to slip out of gear. If I lay off the gas it will go right in OR if I accelerate it to 35 and back off the gas it shifts without a problem. Also if I slow down at a light or because of some idiot who can't drive the tranny does not down shift to 2nd and is sluggish getting up to speed unless I physically take it to 2nd myself. I checked the fluid and it seems alright a little on the high side but not burnt. I was told to check the modulator valve and reduce the fluid level. I don't think this truck has a modulator valve and not sure if a 1 quart overfill would cause this problem. any feed back would be great. Thanks.
