I have a 98 v6 slt and my cat is bad but i dont have the $ to get a new one right now, will it hurt my engin if i just take it off untill i can get the other one, and will the engin light come on or not, thanks

it will run really rough....the pcm doesn't get a good signal from the O2 without a cat....look at the Kat box at www.speedtweaks.net

oh, check your dealer.....aren't cats warranted for 5 years by the government? you might get a new one for free!

i am pretty sure emissions are warranted longer,
maybe wrong, though.

I believe the cats are warranted for 8 years. I know it's in the manual. It's either 5 or 8 years.

For sure it is 8 years.
Zero cost to you.
I had one replaced @ about 1 year out of regular warranty.
But if you remove it, you might be out of luck!

Just to let you know about the warranty on our P.O.S. cat convertors.....they're warrantied for a term of 8/80 (8 years or 80,000 miles on vehicles made after 1995). So if you're in that time frame, get it replaced for FREE! I just had mine done about 3 weeks ago.
