 Subject: Transmission problem (Late Shift)

Hi, I have a 98 Dodge Dakota Sport with 55,000 miles.
The problem that i have is my auto. transmission shifts late from 2 to 3 gear. When this happens it red lines so I let off the gas and then it shifts. Can any one help me with how to fix this problem
