I have a 2003 Dakota Quad Cab 3.9 4X4 that I purchased almost a month ago. It has spent almost 2 weeks of that time in the dealer with shifting problems. When It shifts from 1st to 2nd it shutters, jerks and sometimes jumps back & forth between gears. The dealer says they can not duplicate the problem and are basicaly washing their hands of the problem.

I don't know if the 2 problems are related, but it also has a cruise control problem. Sometimes it fails to maintain the correct speed. It drops off as much 10-15 mph. Then sometimes it just downshifts and takes off past the set speed about 5 mph. ( they can't duplicat that also )

We love our Dodge Caravan, but so so far this Dakota has been a rip off. I don't think I'll purchase another Dodge truck.

I'll be calling Dodge customer service in the next few days.

Has anyone experienced these problems?

I have also had one incident with the truck stumbling at a traffic light, it was backfiring through the throttle body. The dealer claims bad gas.

I have a 97 and the trannie fried at 40K miles. The local Dodge dealer rebuilt the trannie. Basicly it was a new except for the case. From day one after the rebuild I had the same problems you experince. Mine tends to do it more when it's warm out and when I'm going up hill. I put over 70K on it since the rebuild and it's still holding together except for the occasional jumping between first and second. Though this will be the last dodge truck I ever buy. A V6 should get more than 14-15 mpg.

I agree...........my gas mileage is terrible. The dealer ajusted the bands on the tranny today and that helped a little. It still does not shift right on hills. It drops to 2nd gear on a slight grade and hangs in the gear to long after getting over the hill. THIS IS THE WORST VEHICHLE I HAVE EVER OWNED!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about shouting.

The TV cable may need adjustment. Ask the dealer to do that. The Caravan is nothing like the Dakota, I have one too I know. Have you replaced your sway bar bushing and links on the Caravan yet? No vehicle is perfect.

As for the Speed Control, that's completely your fault because you don't use it properly and you've trained it into what's called an overshoot/undershoot condition. You doing what's called a "lift foot set" and your confusing the adaptive part of the Speed Control.

Read your owners manual on how to properly use Speed Control or print my reply and take it to the dealer and have them explain it to you. The condition can be reversed in approximately 10-15 proper applications of the SET button.

Finally, quit whining and don't listen to the BS on this board. Most of it's from trolling idiots like STS.
