its winter now here and i just got the first snow and a coat of ice on the side streets so i put my 96 5 speed in 4 high to get better taction and it made some bad noises, kind of like it was not fully in gear. then on the way to school this mourning, i put it into 4 low to see if it still made the same noises, which it did. i am unsure as to exactly what it is? the front diff??? the t case??? i am thinking about taking off the front drive shaft and disabling the front diff and putting the t case in 4x4 modes and see if it still makes the noises. would this work? any other suggestions? ill take any help i can. Thanks, Steve

What kind of noise did it make. You might need to do some lubricating!

The front drive shafts usualy start to squick
around 60,000 because the factory units you can
not grease the u joints.

You are on the right track first check the case to
be sure its full the fill plug is 1 3/16 on the
back of the case near the top the bottom is the
drain also on the back pf the case. same size

They take trans fluid.

Take the shaft off and see if the noise goes away

it just sounds like the gears are not in fully. the kind of grind over like 10 mph, but if i let off the gas or put the clutch in, the noise stops, no matter what speed im at. Steve

the outside back of the case was covered in oil. i changed it today and put in some valvoline max life dexron III stuff, but the noises still come back just the same, after about 15-20 in 4x4 mode and goes away if i let off the gas or put in the clutch, but as io stop, about 5mph, it comes back, but very quietly. i could use any help i can get. Thanks, Steve

WTF is a squick? I tried using my dictionary and all that came back was several other words so it must be a misspell!
