Subject: transmission shifts at high rpm
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 93 dodge dakota 3.9L V6 and when I'm driving down the road the transmission doesn't shift till i get around 45mph, the rpm's are high also.
But if I let my foot off of the gas pedal, it will shift into the proper gear.
It does this intermintally.
Please advise.
Thanks

Are you talking about the O/D shift point.

TPS O/D solonoid or trans temp sensor will do that

First check all the connections

No, I'v disconnected my overdrive from the od button
on the left side of the panel.
Sometimes it goes into high rpm and sometimes it doesn't.

Disconecting the switch will do absolutly nothing

All the switch does it when you push it it temp
makes a groud and turns the O/D off.

Check the things I listed above.

Sometimes it goes into high rpm and sometimes it doesn't.

You mean sometimes it shifts at a higher rpm and
sometimes not. or are you talking about hitting
the throttle for downshifting into a lower gear

Do a hard reset sometimes that will solve trans
shift probs also.

Disconnest the neg batt cable go in the truck and
turn the key all the way to start and hold it
there for 30 sec's than turn it off reconnect the
batt.

Now start the truck and let it idle for 2 min
shut it off restart and drive away and see if that
helps.

You need to pull the pan to replace the O/D
solonoid

What codes are you getting both these sound like
bad speed sensors.

Here is where you lost me, All gears shifting at
high rpm or just O/D ???

I've got the same problem with my 99 Dakota 4x2 SLT, Fed Up.
My truck won't shift into 3rd from 2nd unless I let up on the gas, sometimes it'll shift if I GIVE it gas.
Thinking it needs a new solenoid somewhere.
I've already put Sea-foam "trans-tune" in it a few weeks ago because I thought the tranny must have a sticking solenoid. It didn't work, so I'm taking it to a local transmission guy I found on Yelp.

I'll re-post what he says after the test drive.
