i have a 2000 3.9 dak. what would be the best. modifing the stock v6 throttle body, shaving the air horns and polishing or putting a stock v8 one on. ive done a lot of searching on here and there seems to be some problems associated with the v8 throttle body. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

What you need to do is see what size the V6 body
you have is they came with anything from 42 to
46 mm if you have a 46mm yes mod it, if the
throttle plates are smaller go with a V8 body

Bolt on as is do not mod it in any way, they have
50mm plates with a 48mm torque step and work fine
just the way they are 48mm

I have two more questions, Can someone explain what would make the motor not iddle correctly after the v8 tb swap. while searching, this seems to happen often as there were a lot of people saying that they have had this problem. Is it just the computer relearning? also in some previous posts i found that people have had to adjust a cable on the TB that goes to the trans?, saying after the swap it wouldn't shift right. Sorry for asking so many questions, i just like to be well informed before i go ahead with mods such as this.

When you first start the motor after the swap you
need to let it sit and idle for a few minutes with
out touching the gas. than shut it off and restart
and it will have learned the new parameters for
maintaining proper idle

Or they put the wrong year throttle body on
92 to 95 need 92 to 95 V8 body with EGR

96 and up they stopped using the EGR and you need
a 96 and up TB for a 96 or newer truck.

The TV Throttle Valve cable on some will need to be
adjusted that takes a whole 2 min to do wow lots
of work!!!

Or they forget to put the vac lines on or use a bad gasket
these are the only probs I have seen doing a swap when
people bring them to me and say they will not idle.

Also you do not need to do a hard comp reset with a swap
as long as you let it idle shut down and restart. sometimes
you need to do this twice if it don't idle after that there is
something wrong as stated above.

You have to realize that some of the people doing the
swaps are not mechanics or know what to look for
when they do have a prob, that is why this board is
here to help.

Would I go in a court room and defend someone no, I
would not know how same thing here.

But if someone takes the time to explain these things
to a person almost all will figure it out
