Hi Everyone,
Thought since I've been using this forum so much, everyday since I got my Dakota last week, and enjoying it so much, PLUS all the great help I've been getting, that I'd join and pay back to it a bit, so to speak. Just got to finish getting my picture uploaded and all.

Check out my truck and let me know what you's think. Not sure if I want to mod the look of it much, kinda like to keep it stock since it's in such great shape. I mainly want to get it running good at the moment. I do need a fog light for the front or a set. One on passenger side is off and broken. I have all of the pieces I beleive, but they don't look very good. If anyone knows where I can get one or both or has any spares lying around they want to sell, let me know. They're gonna be pretty pricy at Mopar Parts if they even have them anymore, I haven't checked yet. Or does anyone know if there are some after market ones that will fit right?

Not the best picture, but I haven't have a chance to take many yet. And, no all the oil on the driveway isn't coming out of my truck, LOL.

I haven't seen many Dakota's like mine except 3 on the net, I think 1 or 2 of them might have been here in the Picture section.

Later!

I must say for an 88, that is one SHARP truck! Really it doesn't need many, if any, exterior mods.

Beautiful looking Dak Diane,

I have a friend up here with an 88 4X4 just like it and he has
over 250,000 miles on it and drives it everyday and is getting
around 20 mpg with the 3.9, Only his is white

They are tough little trucks and with good maintenance
will run for a long time.

I can see this truck is going to end up being your little baby
just like my 95 4X4 is to me I love that truck

And with only 109,000 your truck is just broke in

Thanks guys!
It was awesome to find one in such good shape with only 109k on it. I am so happy with it and really feel lucky to have gotten such a good deal, too. I had been wanting an older Dak for a long time.

Hey Redneck! I didn't get any center caps with it.

Anybody know where I can find center caps? LOL

I'm not sure if I'll keep these wheels on it yet. Once the weather warms up and I can try to polish them up to see what shape they're really in, then I'll decide. I'd really rather have wider tires on it. I was reading a post and someone said they had put 15 x 8's on their 88 with no problem and they didn't stick out. Just depends tho, like I said, if they polish up good I'd think I'd rather have it look original. But, I'm open for any and all sugestions.
Thanks everyone!!!! ;)

Thanks as always Larry, I guess I was writting the above one while you were writting also. Yes, your right, it's already my baby (specially since all my real baby's are grown up).LOL After we get all the little bugs worked out, I'm hoping for 20mpg. We've got the exhaust almost done. We're getting someone to make the new tail pipe for it so it fits up in there really nice. I'm driving without one for now tho, just can't stay out of that truck. Had to use the 4 wheel drive to work this morn. It works really good. I was crossing my fingers since I had to drive 38 miles, and hadn't done any more than tested it when we went to buy it. Later my GODFATHER!!!LOL

Yes, I tend to agree about the running boards. I'm painting them black this spring, if that doesn't help any, they are outa here! Did these trucks come with then on or was it an after market thing? Just wondering.
Thanks ALL!!!

miles turned the corner and the light came on
Dam but it was code 17 running to cold pulled
in the garage and put the 195 back in and reset

That's pretty funny about the baptism, Larry.
I became a grandmother earlier this year, but they live in Denver, so I don't get to see her much.:( My son that made me granny is 24, a bit young but very responsible and a great father.
I still have one at home, just turned 17, I gotta watch out, I think he likes my Dak,lol, although he hasn't come right out an asked to drive it yet.
My oldest is 27, (I had him kinda young). He's married with no children yet, thank God. Don't think he's quite ready for that kind of responsibility.
What about you?

Bummer about the codes, maybe she just wanted some extra attention, LOL. How cold has it been up your way?
I checked my codes and got 22 & 24, nothing major I don't think, do you know what they are? Still waiting for the factory manual to get here. Anyday now I hope. I haven't finished checking out the heater blower motor. I did run a hot wire from the battery to the plug(off & on) the resistor), and grounded using a test light, with key on and heater switch on. Got a light on tester in just one of the plug holes. Took the resistor out and just checked it with an omh meter to make sure the wires were good end to end, got a reading off all. Didn't find any loose wires anywhere and all looked real good. To check the blower motor itself, I need to get to the motor under the dash and run a hot to it to see if it will run, right? I guess I need to re-read that post.

Here you will find the codes

http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-44.htm

22 Coolant temperature sensor circuit
engine temp sensor bad, not the guage sending
unit there is one that just tells the comp what
the engine temp is to adjust fuel

24 Throttle position sensor check that with a
digital volt meter center wire and ground should
be between .35 to 1 throttle closed key on and
should peak at wide open 3.5 to just over 4 and
return to the same low volts every time it will
also effect the way your trans shifts I know you
mentioned something about that in one of your
post this may be the cause

But first be sure the connections are not caroaded

These 2 sensors being bad may explain your low
gas mileage also

2 boys 24 and 26 1 is a machinist other in coll.
to be an automotive enginer neither married yet
thank god joe is pulling down 60,000 a year the
other cost me 60,000 a year

Thanks for the code info. That could be the whole problem with the no power on take off and shifts out of first way to fast. I'll check out the above link! Your a great Dak Father Larry! LOL

You and I must be very close in age. Your boys, ages are right there with mine. My middle son, that has my granddaughter's name is Joe (Joey still to me, tho).

Going to work now, have a great day!

One more thought.
On code 22, would that have anything to do with my temp guage not working? I traced the wires and all connections are good to sending unit.

Okay, I lied two more...

And on code 24. We found a bracket (long, flat, whole in one end, slot in other) & spring(small) off the throttle just laying on the motor where it had fallen off.

What do you think? (besides, wish her book would get there)LOL

sounds like you sending unit for the guage is bad
if the guage don't work right.

no the sprig would not effect the TPS its just a
variable resistor changing value as the throttle
opens.

KEN, Thank you too!
Yah, I will, it's my new baby and I hope to have it a long time. I just love this little truck! I had been wanting a Dakota for a long time, and was planning on buying a GenIII next year when my finaces were ready, but now I'm just as happy with this 88, probably happier, no payments! LOL Thanks for looking at my truck and giving input.
