I will be doing a chain and tensioner on a 94 3.9
Dak 4X4 next week as soon as the chain and
sprokits come in.

All mopar parts

Would you guys want me to take some pics and let
you all know exactly what is involved in replacing
the chain and adding the tensioner to solve the
chain noise problem almost everyone has.

The truck has 90,000 miles on it.

Was this a common problem in all 3.9 V-6s (both pre-Magnum and Magnum)engines?

Well, I had this job done to my '93 about a month ago because I didn't have the tools nor patience to do it myself but I would be interested in seeing pictures of the procedure anyway. Larry, are you going to put a new waterpump on while you have it torn down? I had 'em swap mine since I didn't know how old the existing pump was. (bought the truck recently with 163,000 on it) Cheap insurance I guess...

I would normaly replace the water pump but with
only 90,000 and the big clutch fan was removed
and switced over to elec at 50,000 I think it has
a lot of life left in it.

Without the heavy fan the load on the pump
bearings is greatly reduced, I have seen a lot
of these pumps go 250,000 or more

If it was at 125 150,000 there would be no
question it would get replaced

Larry we can't have enough of that type of resource on this site! I for one will be doing this same procedure on my 97 3.9 in about a week or two.
There is a section on this website that I feel has some of the biggest potential and that is the "How To's". There is only ONE posted. It is on painting your door lathces and is very well detailed.
I recently preformed a crank sensor mod on my truck a week ago and a pictorial with instructions would have been great prep tool. As many times as this one is done and asked about this should be another added to the "How To" section.
The How To section has the potential to be one of our best resources, along with members like Larry,on this site.
What do some of you guys think?? What else would you like to see there?

That is where I would like Mark to put it but how
do you find the how to's, I seen it once with the
painted door handles.

MARK you need a direct link to the how to's so
everyone can easily find it.

That is just not a hot thing painting your door
handles.

I will write to mark.

Larry,

I'll be doing mine December 20th or 21st. I will also be trying to degree the cam so it is exactly to specs. Could you talk about that as well in your post? That will help me out, and others to I'm sure, as I have never done it before. The thing is I figure as long as I am there and as picky as these computer trucks are about things being spot on, I might as well make sure the cam timing is correct. After all, everything the truck runs on (computer, spark and injectors) is based off of the cam being in time with the crank.

Thanks again for all of your great help.

I agree with you Larry the door handle thing is not hot. It only illistrates what is possible using that venue.
The how to's is not well formatted on the home page.Being positioned in the middle of the home page it is probably over looked alot.
I found a roller rocker arm step by step on fast4x4.com that was pretty well done.
With my BMW it is easy to find a ton of these.I suprised there arn't more for the Dakota.
