Hello I am thinking of doing a stroker kit on a 3.9 and has anyone found a good crank for this project yet?

I dont wanna start a project I cant get the parts for.. I just checked out strokerkits.com and they dont guarantee tht the crank wont hit the block.

There were a few guys talking about it on this forum and I was wondering if they found one yet. thanks Quick 6

All blocks are not the same but I hade to remove
about an 1/8 from the casting in 1 spot to clear
the crank counterweight they are bigger.

Nothing most could not do themselfs

I did not get my cranks from strokers but will
be getting my rods and pistons from them for my
next one.

It makes a big diff in these motors, especialy
low and mid range power

Hello Larry (PLEASE HELP) I am having a tough time trying to decide what to do to my 2003 3.9 motor.. If I new what to buy then I could just concentrate on getting what I needed and putting it togeather..

I think I am going to wait on the stroker kit for now..

Here is my question..
I want to replace the
(1) throttle body
(2) intake
(3) heads
(4) cam
(5) I also am going to get the ASE chip

I went to Hughesengines and they have a lot of good info there but I still need some help..

Should I buy used stock heads and intake and have them port polished and matched or should I buy new ones from some performance shop?

I dont know if there is a big diffrence between the cfm (air flow rate) to justify the cost..

Here is the big question what cam to buy?????

I have to use this truck as a daily driver, but I still want it to be Hot!!

What Hp power gains can I exspect with the items listed above?

I have a cold air intake already on my truck and the Dynomax that you recomended it sounds good..

I know how to put the motor togeather but not good at the teck stuff !!! An help you can give me will be much apperciated.. Thanks Quick 6

For the 2000 3.9 get a superchips tuner, ASE is no longer operating in the US. Currently there are no aftermarket heads, or intake manifolds. You need to pick up a used set to have reworked. On the heads have a machine shop do a good 3 angle valve job and a decent pocket port and clean up. Your going to want to also pick up a set of the mopar performance r/t springs, along witht he matching locks and retainers. As far as the intake goes cut the runners back 3in and have the plenum filled with some sort of epoxy to reduce the plenum volume, radius the injector bosses, open the tb bores up to a true 50mm, and gasket match the head side of the manifold. As far as a cam shaft goes look for something with around 210deg of intake duration. You should be happy with something simular to the krc210 cam, will have good power, a nice lope and good street manners. To top it off your going to want a 50mm throttle body, aset of headers and a full 3in exhaust. if your an auto matic look into getting a higher stall convertor and gears to make this combo run correctly. if its a 5speed just upgrade the clutch when it goes out and you should be fine.

dodgeboy gave you some good info there, I know a
lot of people thing they can do all this but the
more radical you go the higher you need to rev.

The KRC cam is a good choice, I see Huhes is
making a cam almost identical to what I am running

There cam is 266 270 mine is 268 272 vertualy the
same only I am only runing around a .484 lift on
mine with the 1.7's

I hardly ever rev my stroker over 5000rpm there is
just no need, the power starts to drop off at 4800
and drops a lot over 5000, just the nature of the
6. I built the motor to have its powerband between
2500 to 5000 rpm very streetable motor.

On my stroker I had to install a higher rpm stall
converter because of what I did under 2000rpm its
not to great. I also went with 3.91

It all depends on how you plan to use the truck.
Mine is mostly my daily driver, I like to drive
it more than the hemi truck but that truck is a
lot of fun too.

Thanks greg for the input, I can't believe the ASE chips are no longer operating in the US..

Every time I turn around something else changes even tho I have went thru so many old posts here and never saw they were gone..

Dodgeboy I did see a sweet intake from Hughes engines for $400.00 for the 3.9 have you seen it??

I figured I would need a a higher stall converter as well but did not want to get into that yet..

What do you think about haveing KRCperformance do the head work for me, or should I just have it done locally??

Well thanks for you help I do apperciate it.. I now have a goal to work towards.. Thanks QUICK 6

The heads KRC did for me were fine and a decient
job.

I have another set that our crank guy did for me
but did not try them yet they will probably end
up on my next stroker motor.

I will also be using something similer to the KRC
210 cam not sure exactly what I will run in there
yet.

It will be going in a 1990 with a 92 motor, PCM
and wire harness that I have, actualy I have the
whole truck it was rolled and is very waisted,
most of the parts I did not need are already sold
man Dak parts go fast, if someone knows you have
them they are always bothering a guy to get them.

Trans & Rear were the first things to go

You can contact stroker kits for any questions
about the crank working in the pre mag's I am
not sure but check with them.

If it does I would drop a 4bl manifold on it with
a 600 holley vac secondary, There are a few pre
mags around here with cams and the 4bl setup and
they run nice

Hello Larry and Dodge boy I have one more question for ya if you dont mind..

I wanna deal with hughes engines on my 3.9 build up because they have the intake and cam for my motor and they talk about having the intake, heads and cam all work togeather so it will run like a top..

Here is my problem I am looking at Hughes engine 3.9 v-6 Hydraulic roller camshaft chart and I cant find one that resembles the KRC 210 cam that dodge boy recomended..

I also am trying to find out which intake I should use stage 1 or 2 with this cam.. Thanks guys as always Quick 6

HER0814AL is close to the KRC cam advertised at
.050 lift 208 214

The HER0818AL is hotter and almost exactly what I
am running with a little less lift on mine.
214 218 at .050 advertised at 266 270 and I am
running a 268 272 with .484 lift. this cam will
start making a lot of power 2500 and up

As dodgeboy alias Greg said if you run one of
these cams with the higher lift definetly change
out the valve springs, the stokers will bind just
over .500 lift

I highly reccomend that you get some track times before getting your intake done to that extent.
Especially if you have an auto or stock gear stick.
The intake modded to that point really only gives you better et's not that "seat of the pants" feel your looking for.

If I could just get Gregboy to work with me we could do it from our shop. hint hint...lol

I have owned my 1992 dak V6 auto for 3 years and my dad bought it new. I have not done anything to improve performance on this truck. I drove a 99 r/t with a powerdyne supercharger and a host of other mods. now I kinda want that same kick in the rear that that truck gave me except, in my truck. I also am thinking about changing the tranny to a 5-speed. Do you guys have any advice for me on what direction i should go with engine mod. as well as the tranny change?
p.s. it is a daily driver i'd like to keep the thing over 15 mpg as well. I dont know if thats really much to work with

The intake work isnt too hard to do, I've done up a few of them over the past few years, just havent found an epoxy I would put inside my motor yet to fill the plenum area. I had a hughes intake for a 318 sitting on my work bench for awhile that came with a motor a friend bought...really wasnt impressed, you should be able to do just as good as a job if not better yourself. they had a nice solid epoxy inside of it, just not sure what exactly it was. I could do the intake for you if I wasnt so busy right now. Check with me next month if you still havent gotten one yet, definitly dont spend 400 bucks on the hughes one.

I also have a set of martys heads on my motor, they were good for the money. My next motor I'm probably going to go with a set of the fastmans heads, granted they will be about 5 times the cost of martys v6 heads.

Scott...you set up the shop I'll come work in it..hehe ;)

Oh, and personally I think I'm going with a krc220 cam sometime this winter along with some more cutting on the intake manifold. Hopefully will get me that 12 I'm looking for.
