Intense Dak, I work at Chrysler Product Design Team, you on the other hand, in your profile, are a bum! The new cross member is due to a different oil pan, not mounting point, the new mounting point is due to a new block, the new mounting point allows the taller engine to sit lower in the frame. the new block is due to the change in the valve train needed to allow the correct valve train geometry needed for the HEMI heads. The very few wiring changes are only under the hood, and the engine requires a remapped but physically identicle PCM. Most sensors remain the same, so that we don't need a whole slew of new ones, to reduce our inventory cost, which decreases the amount you will have to pay for one. The end result, with just these few changes allows a drop in installation. the guys on the styling team are working on a new dash that the MARKETING GUYS want, but is not needed to make the engine, that sits under the hood, not in the dash, work. There are currently no changes in under dash wiring in the works.

The HEMI conversions that you are refering to are crate engines based on the old 392/426 HEMI that except for NAME share no common parts with the new HEMI.

i have not mentioned anything about the older hemis. What i am talking about is that the dash wiring for the ram is not the same as the dash wiring for the dakota. To run the Hemi you would need the computer from a ram and therefore, the computer controls for the hemi would not be compatible with the dash on a dakota.

As this thread started... he said he swapped 5.9 liter hemi in a 1997 dakota. Now that he cant figure out what kinda motor he is talking about.. he did mention the year. The 1997 Dakota does not have a k-member that will unbolt and swap out. The 2004 dakotas dont even have that. There is no crossmember to change out on the dakota and the mounts on it are welded to the frame. I didnt think i would have to repeat myself on this but looks like it. To fit the different motors in there, the motors all have different motor mounts from the 5.2/5.9/3.9 to the 2.5 to the 4.7. The only change in the Dakota to allow the 4.7 to fit in the engine bay was that in 1999, the brake booster was decreased in overall diameter size and extended in depth. Thats why all the dakotas from 99 and later are smaller in diameter than the 1998 and newer (some might share because of crossover to the new motor).

now once again... please explain to me how you can just swap the crossmembers out?... because i am looking at my dakota and cant figure out how to without cutting up the whole front frame and jeoperdizing the geometry of the suspension.
