This "person" lost control of his little sh-tbox Nissan Sentra (mid 80's model) and literally made a left turn right in front of me (raining - Mopac/185 southbound). Hit the brakes to slow down but couldn't get out of his way. Hit him with the grill in the driver door and center post
(4-door) at 35mph. Now to make things even more fun...an APD officer (Austin Police Department) was about 80 yards ahead on the side of the expressway...saw the whole thing...even watched the guy DRIVE AWAY!! (Hit and Run)

Truck needs a new fender, bumper, and headlight assembly...but NO damage to the frame, engine, or suspension. Total cost for parts: $400. God I love full frame trucks!! :) I checked the bumper supports, radiator supports, and frame...no damage, bends, kinks, scratches, etc. Even the grill is fine! (WOW)

Here's some pictures:

http://www.speedtweaks.net/Images/Accident/

The good news is that there's no support, frame, or bracket damage at all. Even the radiator is in perfect shape.

Sorry to hear this Bernd

You are lucky it didn't get into your grill & hood.

One thing about it if he lives in the area he shouldn't be to hard to spot, Just look for a DAK imprint in his side.

Man your lucky... On my way out to the R/T Club show... I got nailed in the ass in while i was in the caravan by some guy in a little white nissan ironically enough... I think my lucky nissan driver was an altima though. But i wasnt as lucky, the frame ended up being bent and it had pushed the bed up into the back of the cab and put a nice little dent (actually not too little) but anyway when everything was said and done it ended up costing 2000 bucks... But i did luck out as far as me having the stock bumper... As a matter of fact i think i was the only guy in the caravan that didnt have a rollpan... anyway, what luck i had the guy had insurence and he didnt try to run... Truck is as good as new though... Looks better actually now than when i pulled it off the lot so it really isnt too bad... Its just the hassle involved with getting everything fixed.

Ouch. That reminds me the day I got dinged - 3 DAYS AFTER I GOT THE DAMN TRUCK this July.

I was turning into the bank, car that was parellel parked behind me pulled out, and crunched my passenger door.

They had to replace my door, but no damage to frame, chasis, etc.

All I could do to unleash the flury was the fact I knew the cop and he calmed me down.

I know how you feel. I was hit by a guy who decided not to look before he made a left turn across my path. He was coming toward me and going pretty fast. We had a head on at about 45mph $8000.00 Cnd damage. Took a month to fix and 10 hours to straightn the frame. That was in my '97 thank god. It's gone now.

I think you got off real lucky. But I am glad you did. So why didn't you chase them down? You definitely have the faster truck. ;-)

Man, that totally sucks Bernd!

I got rear-ended by a Full Size Chevy (ancient) a few months ago. The truck seemed ok, but it screwed up the bumper. When it was finally daylight I noticed that the bed had been shoved forward and bounced off the back of the cab, putting a nice line of dents in it. No frame damage, just the Bed shifting on it's mount.

Ended up being $2200 in repairs, but I got lucky and had the guys name and such. His insurance paid for it ;0)

BigB: Yup, 183. (Typo on the numeric keypad)

The APD officer was more concerned with me and my son and called the vehicle description in over the radio. They alerted the local emergency rooms as well as the surrounding police officers. He did his job very well.

I didn't feel it was safe to chase the driver as my 2 year old was in the truck...it's not my job to chase them down anyway.

I've had two cars totalled while they were sitting in my driveway. The first was a beautiful burgundy Pontiac that I'd only had 75 days. It was some punk in a stolen car being chased by the cops. He hit my car so hard that it was bent in two, yet he still got away. Five years later, I had a Riviera totalled by a 16 year old kid too drunk to stand up. Both cars were parked in the driveway at three in the morning. Mabye I should put a moat around the house.

Yup, we still have lots of snow!
This time last year someone smucked in the back of my truck anonymously - to the tune of $1600. I had to pay the deductible. The most aggravating part is that I was pretty certain it was a pi$$-tank neighbour (whose car just happened to be absent for several weeks afterwards..and apparently he asked another neighbour "who owned the black truck") The cops got unfriendly with me for suggesting they check it out. I just had to look at it this way: I got a brand new rear bumper out of it (the old one had dings in it) and a paint job for 3/4 of the truck... and an undercoat.

Already got the insurance check and already have the parts needed to fix it. New fender, bumper, and airdam (settled for the factory one for now). They're going for paint either this weekend (or next) and will be installed about 48 hours after the paint has had time to cure.
