 Subject: V6 heads how many miles til top overhaul

I saw a post somewhere that indicated that the 318 gen II was susceptible to cracking between the valve seats. Is this fact or fiction and does it pertain to the V6 as well? When is a good time to do a top overhaul??

It all depends on how you drive your vehicle, what type of Oil you use, What type of Fuel you use. Low grade gasoline causes deposit build-up on your valves. Low grade Oil causes Sludge on top of your heads. Drivin like a maniac can burn your Valves & Rings. Letting your engine overheat can warp and/or crack the heads.
Giving your engine a good cleaning: Flushing Oil System like I posted in "Oil Smell" post followed by a good fuel flush like I posted in the "Acceleration" post is a good start.
Then do a compression check. Larry help me out here. I believe factory compression should be between 110-120 lbs.
Write down each cylinders compression. Each cylinder should be within 10% of each other. If they are not.... Get an old fashion Oil Squirter, give the Cylinder a few good squirts down the spark plug hole & do a compression check again.
If the compression increased by more than 10% your rings are shot.
If it stayed pretty close to same & the cylinders are more than 10% off from each other you have head problems. Your compression will increase with the Oil added in the cylinder. Burnt valves, cracks, clogged valves etc...
