I have a 99 3.9 2wd Dak 2dr short bed, and I've been reviewing the boards for some time now and noticed a lot of people are saying that the Autolite 3923 plugs are the best to go for.

I understand that they are not the recommended plugs for the 3.9, and was wondering who first decided to go with them for their truck, I mean, most people don't just put a part in their truck that isn't made for it.

Anyways I've just crossed 30k in my truck and was wondering if I even need to replace the plugs. I mean, how long do the stock plugs last? The only underhood mod I have is a K&N air filter (if thats even considered a mod), so I was wondering what I should do to keep my truck maintained. I am currently getting 17-18 mpg mixed highway/city, and don't want to risk losing my mpg with plugs or mods that weren't needed.

Thanks for any help

If it pings when you use regular, then you might want to use those plugs. But on the other hand, if everything is fine, you could do a couple more oil changes before you need to worry about the plugs. I don't know what wears out on these things since I'm new to one myself, but if you haven't already, install a 180 degree thermostat, it will make the motor last longer and possibly run better. Also make sure a mouse hasn't made a home on your intake manifold or in your airbox. ;)If it's an auto trans, then why not drop the tranny panny and change the filter. Again, preventative maintenance. Make sure all your filters are new/clean. I'm sure there's other stuff you can do, pretty much anything that you do ahead of time will help you spot potential problems and increase longevity of the truck.

Plugs ok the only reason to drop 1 heat range is
piston ping that developes from doing more mods

On your truck stay with the same heat range until
you do more to it.

On the stock ignition you can go with the AP3924
or AP5224 because of the lower resistance to
fireing you can open the gap .005 over factory
setting and create a slightly bigger flame front
and on a lot of trucks improve the gas mileage
about 1 mpg by doing so.

AP platnum tip only not the APP

The extended tip 52 series will run a little
cooler and give you a little better low end
response what chrysler calls there truck plug
is just an extended tip champion plug and they
will install them when they have performance isues
and your truck probably already has the extended
champion plug

At 30,000 I would do a filter and fluid on the
trans 6 qts and a filter kit with gaskit, autozone
between $5 to $10 and use the chrysler +4 or
amsoil universal don't use any cheap fluid
