I've gor a 2001 3.9L and I want to increase the low end torque. I'm waiting until the stock muffler dies before I put a beefier exhaust on it. Plus, from what I hear, some back pressure helps the low end. I'm thinking of an intake replacement and a V8 throttle body. Possibly even adding a TB shim. Does this plan sound good? Any specific brands/products that would help me out. I don't mind spending a little cash but don't want to end up with my mods worth more than the truck.

Best bang for the buck right now is a superchip controler....$280.-$325.00 if you look around

if you wait for that muffler to die that will take a long time

If your mechanicly inclined add the 1.7 rockers
and you will gain from 1800 on up

V8 body
cold air
1.7's
muff

about 30 35 hp

I droped over $6000 in my motor and only gained
about 90 hp but to me well worth it.
267/305 was my last dyno run and the truck will
run 14.4 @ 97 not the fastest thing around but its
a pleasure and lots of fun to drive

I've heard some people talking that the Ram magnum engines tend to be retarded by about 4 degrees. First of all should I look at having the timing belt changed at 100k (i'm at 70k now). If so would it be worth it to change it in the near future and have the timing advanced some? Should I also worry about over stressing a high milage engine like this? Even tho I still have warrentee on it, I'd hate to blow the dang thing.

The timing chain I would not mess with as far as
trying to advance it.

Spark timing on the other hand is about 7 degrees
from detination, the 92 93 mopar pcm has about a
6 degree advance over a stock unit, you can gain
about 3 to 4 with the crank sensor mod, more low
end and better exceleration and gas mileage will
be the resault

The super chips tunner is an excellent computer
upgrade, just a drop in K&N filter and a bigger
TB will also help a lot

I've never heard of the crank sensor mod. What all does it entail?

Just be sure you remove the rubber gromet from the
hole so the sensor will move over

You gain about 3 to 4 degress advance and you
will notice it from right off idle it improves
response.

I do it to almost all the trucks that come in and
the customers love the mod
