I have a '97 Dakota 3.9L, 5 spd. K&N air filter, no cat converter, stock muffler(ran out of money). Here's the problem... When I drive the truck, when it's cold, it's fine, but after it warms up, and I'm driving 70ish, it starts choking, and if I let off of the gas the tach drops 500 rpm (while still in gear), then comes back, then drops, then comes back. It is worse if I turn on the heater (???). It also wants to idle at like 450 rpm when i'm sitting in neutral, and sometimes dies when I'm breaking hard. I have ran SeaFoam through it (that's a cleaner if u didn't know). I have put a new cap and rotor in it. I did run over a snowshovel (darned interstate construction gave me three options, concrete wall on the left, bridge on the right, stradle the snowshovel). Could a bad o2 sensor cause the problems I'm having? Any other suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW everyone has their favorite truck, but only dodge owners have good looking trucks with power. Maybe not w/ the v6, but everyone loves 360's, especially those cute little motors they put in extremes, haha. God Bless.

A bad o2 how many miles on the truck if over
60,000 I would replace it, the O2 is one of the
main sensors that controls your air fuel ratio.

Also check your TPS throttle position sensor,
middle wire and ground key on but not running
throttle closed .35 to .75 volts now open and
close the throttle a few times and make sure it
returns to low voltage every time

Be sure you did not knock off any vac lines

I took out the downstream o2 sensor, and put a plug in the pipe. Then I straped the 02 sensor to the frame, like some of the guys on here said to do. The truck has 130,000 miles on it, but I just put new o2's on it a year ago. Anyway, when i did that, the check engine light went off (I was getting a code telling that my cat wasn't efficient, der) The only problem is that after it warms up, it still runs bad. I guess I'll do what u said to do. Thanks, any other suggestions, keeping in mind that it only does it when it's warmed up, and it gets worse when I turn the heater on???
