Hi guys, long time lurker,first time poster here.
I have a 92 Dakota 3.9,auto,4X4 W/120,000 miles on her. I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out why my dak kept stalling.As long as the RPM's where above 1,000 she would run all day and night.When ever I came to a stop light/sign she would die right out on me.But,she would always start right back up.I had her in 2 different Chrysler dealership shops.The first one had her for 3 days and came to the conclusion that the SBEC needed to be replace.They told me,that if they do it,it would cost about $600.I told them,that I would do it myself.I got a reman. from auto zone for $350 and changed it.But,that didn't change any thing,she was still stalling.
The second shop,had her for over a month before they finally gave up and told me,that I need to get the engine replaced because of bad compression on 2 of the cylinders.I knew,that was BS and told them to forget it.
It was then,that I turned to the net and did a search for "92 Dakota stalling" and found this site.I instantly started going through a lot of the archives and found a lot of good info.The first thing that I did,was change the AIC and clean the TB but that didn't help.I did several other recommendations but it wasn't until I changed the pick up coil (hall effect sensor) that she finally started idling W/O problems.Altogether,I spend about 3 months and $800 solving this problem.I just wish,that I had found you guys a littler sooner.I could have probably saved 2.5 months and several hundred dollars.
