Well so far I have them all done. I'm writing this to comfirm that the autolite 3923's do work on a 03 V6 (SXT 2wd RC in this case). I say it because I rembered running across a post that said they thought they didn't work well in the 03's.

I did however decide that when it comes time to change them again I will be trying a more "accurate" colder plug with an extended probe and most likely NGK's.

I had no real problems getting the plugs changed. Sure it was a bit tight on the driver's side firewall plug but with a swivle joint it wasn't a problem. And yeah I had to use a damn breaker bar to get the stock plugs out.

The rotor and cap went on without a hitch though again it was a bit tight in there. But it was pretty easy just swapping the driver's side wires to the new cap, remove the old cap, swap the rotors, install the new cap, then swap the other 3 wires and the main coil wire. Nice and easy and no chance of messing up the firing order.

The thermostat was only hard to find but not install. And I saw no need at all to remove the alternator. I just drained the coolant from the radiator drain plug (maybe half a gallon) using a hose to direct it from the drain to my clean pale.

Unbolted the goose neck, removed the gasket material with a razor (yeah a bit tight on the engine side but it worked), installed the new gasket and thermo, rebolted it, returned the fluid and that was it.

Oh and I remembered reading about drilling a hole etc in the thermo housing. [shrug] i saw no need because the stocker had no such hole and what appeared to be a purge hole on the stocker on the actual valve seat was present in the aftermarket unit.

Oh yeah and what I used was a NAPA rebranded SuperStant. It was of course the same one I found at Checker on my own (but didn't show up on their computer) but for which they didn't seem to have the gasket for.

No one around here carried the other brand (Robert Shaw?) everyone seems to love but frankly I have had good luck with stants so [shrug]. We'll see how it fairs on its next long tow which has a fwe hills to climb.

I'll also have a tranny cooler installed by then too and hopefully a temp gauge.

Also last week I replaced that plate that covers the throttle body with an s-rod. Easy enough though the dimensions on the speedtweeks page don't seem right or easy to try and duplicate by measuring. I just did it by eye. It was about 1/4" off the first time but close enough that I was able to just bend it right there while it was threaded into the throttle-body.

Going to do a DIY intake this week with some Home Depot ABS and a K&N bought at a local speedshop.

The same reason I f*cked with my 1997 eagle talon the day I got it. Because I want to make it better.

The rotor: OEM is aluminum, aftermarket is brass. brass is better

The plugs: colder plugs result in less detonation in this motor than the stock heat range; especially useful when I f*ck with my computer by getting a superchips

Why get a superchips: because from the factory they run the timing very conservative and don't have the brains to use a knock sensor to advance timing for better fuel economy and power. I want more power and more economy by fine tuning the motor beyond what the factory is willing/able to because of emissions and "one size fits all" mentality.

The thermostat: same reason as the plugs, cooler engine means less detonation which can help me advance timing without detonating.

Tranny cooler: I tow and didn't get the heavy duty package ... do I really need to explain that one further? Perhaps I should use small words?

DIY air intake: better flow in coupled with my eventual exhaust upgrade for better flow out should give me some more power and if I stay off the noise maker should give me better efficiency again like when towing.

And finally: when shouldn't I f*ck with it? When do you feel it is acceptable for me to do what I want to my own truck? Is there some grace period during which I shouldn't violate my truck with my evil ways?

I suppose I shouldn't have put in my spray on bed liner cause my truck is just too new to f*ck with?

So again I ask why ask why?

cause there was nothing else to say. I made this post for folks who are searching for that info and who, like me, might have read that there were problems with the autolites in an 03.

I finished my cold air intake last night. 15 minutes. $40 for the filter $25 for the ABS and coupling from home depot. Now I just have to order a flowmaster from e-bay (way cheaper than my local speed shop) and install that trans cooler before my trip this weekend. gonna change the oil too (600 miles so far) to get rid of anything that has accumulated in the initial break-in and put in synthetic.

Hoping to get my power window kit today and put it in along with my power lock kit that arrived last week. Alarm arrive next week too.
