Someone that knows these dakotas please help. I have an 02 3.9 5 spd with 16000 miles on it. Sounded nice and smooth when i got it but now it almost sounds like a valve tap but i open the hood and hear nothing, it comes from inside the cab. A lot of people are saying injectors. But the engine just sounds over worked and very loud and grindy and i hear what sounds like a vacuum leak and vibration at the acclerator every time i acclerate and let off not to mention the whiny gears inside the tranny. I am just worried cause this truck sounds like it has 100,000 miles on it already and its brand new. Imagine running an engine with no oil it it, that is how it sounds. Almost wonder if my converter is clogged, i hear a lot of people having problems with them. i change oil every 3,000 and have not missed one and take good care of it maintenance wise. Only mods are drop in K&N and reset the TPS but was worried about long term effects of that and the dealer giving me a hard time if i take it to them for this. They don't like me though cause i bitch about every thing and i even wonder if they check out the problems. This site helps me much more than the stupid dealer so any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys

if there is a loss of power and lack of accelaration, its probably a stopped up or shattered cat converter.

what you can do is take a normal flat head screwdriver, and start your truck, and crawl under it and place the end of the screw driver against your transmission, and place your ear to the end of the screwdriver and listen, if it sounds smooth, then it's not that, and place it to the cat converters as well. If it doesnt sound smooth through the screwdriver chances are thats where your problem is located.
