Subject: My comparison between Dakota/S-10/Ranger

I just bought a brand new 03 RC SXT 2WD 5spd, the other day and I just thought i would throw in my 2 cents as to why i thought the dakota.

I had been driving a 88 ranger 2.3 5spd, it got me from point A to point B, but usually with at least one stop in between to add oil or let it cool down or something. It got to the point where i didnt think it was going to be moving under its power much longer so I went to the local ford dealership to check out a new ranger.
I stepped inside one of them and gave the interior a good look through and decided that a test drive was out of the question. The ergonomics of the interior were almost disgusting, and i could not stand the look of the insturment cluster. The outside looked pretty good though and I did dig the clear headlights.

I went on to the chevy dealership where i test drove a 03 extreme with an automatic. It was respectably fast but the whole truck seemed somewhat cheaply made to me and did not have a very firm ride, which i am used to and probably need so i can haul a trailer on occasion. I went ahead and talked to the salesman about price, and for the options that I wanted, it would have topped out right at $20,000. That pretty much ended the conversation with him, and i went on to the dodge dealership.

I took a look at the dakotas that they had out there. All except one of them was an SXT, the other one was an SLT extended cab. I looked at it first, but didnt see any options in it that wanted that werent in the SXT, other than cruise. I talked to the salesman there about pricing, and he said that he could give me an out the door price on a RC of $14,000, which i liked, but then he told me about one of the ones that he bought that was also on the lot. I took a look at it and liked it quite a bit, it was a dark maroon, and only had 1200 miles on it. I went ahead and priced it and the out the door price on it was only $13,085. Needless to say, i was driving home in my new dakota that day and lovin it. The only money that i have put into it is having the cruise option added at the dealership, and that only cost $375

I just thought ya might like to know how I became a dakota owner.

Before I bought my first new Dak I also compaired
chevy and ford just to see how they were.

I have driven chrysler products all my life but
thought I would take a look, it was just a waist
of time.

The Dak won hands down more power better looks
more roomy inside heavyer frame better suspention

I also drove a toyota and the dash hurt my eyes it
was so ugly

I did the same thing before I bought my Dakota.
Test drove the Ranger, its Mazda clone, and a Sonoma. Way too small in the cab.
As soon as I got in the Dakota, I knew it was the truck for me, lotsa room but not a full-size truck.

Congrats. Hang around here for about 2 days, you'll be tearing into everything on it. My wife still can't understand why I need to put a new Stat in a brand new Truck, or a high-flow intake, or change the Spark Plugs right away.

I have less than 6K on the odometer and have already done numerous mods, added a spray in bedliner and a Grill guard.

Welcome to the addiction!

Uh... if his brain were in his pants, he probably would be doing everything his wife DID understand (and agree with).
